expander: a devise designed to decrease the level of low level signals and increase the level of high level signals, thus increasing the dynamic range of the signal.

inverse: opposite in effect

so: an "inverse expander" is just a fancy way of saying compressor (probably to confuse cats and make them think you got a "secret weapon" in your studio)... :)
