Need Some Advice

Hey everyone.

Have been looking around this site for most of this day reading everything i could basicly.

Im seriously thinking about getting an mpc soon, but the thing is im 16 and have to pay for it myself so the money i spend on this is a serious amount of saving and i dont want to make the wrong buy, i live in ireland aswell so the good deals from amerca work out more costy when i have to pay an extra 23% custems and vat charge.

Im not sure what mpc to get, i really could do with some help on this guys.

il be making a wide range of hiphop on it and maybe evin some other genres aswell. and sampleing stuff etc etc.

I hope ye can help me out dudes. I have used the search for other people with the same questions but couldnt find anything of real help to me.

ive been making beats for over a year now on my computer and always wanted to get a drum machine or some hardware.

i dont want to get a biggners mpc or whatever bevause its easier to start off with or whatever, il hopefull have this for a long time and wont really have money to upgrade so i want to get the best i can first off.

In my humble Opinion. Each mpc fits a certain kind of person.

MPC 60: This is the mpc for you if you want a great sound and don't mind the lack of filters and the limited memory.

MPC 3000: This is the mpc for you if you like the style of the 60, but need more sample time and a low pass filter.

MPC 2000: This is the mpc for you if you don't mind a what goes in comes out sampler. By this I mean it doesn't add anything to samples, sound wise, basicly what you put in is what you get out. (bangin' drums in bangin' drums out/weak drums in weak drums out) It has the same max sample time as the 3k with some extra little featurs here and there.

MPC 2000XL: Basicly the same as the classic 2000. But added onto it were new features such as timestretch,zoning,folders to save to, and so on...

MPC: 1000: This is the most portable mpc. With the new os I'm pretty sure it does everything the 2kxl does and more. But there have been many situations where peoples pads have stopped working.

MPC 4000: The only 24 bit mpc. In my opinion its basicly a computer with pads. The are some features that were apparently promised by akai but no implemented yet. (Check with some 4k users cause I don't know what they are)

MPC 2500: Great mpc, feature wise. Not sure about how it sounds though. Kind of pricey though.

Its a section on MPC comparison. Read up on that. I think that section was made to help people out when buyin an MPC. Not sayin u in da wrong for posting in this section but go there and read a lil. It might help.

what machine do you think would be the best buy in yer opinion?

When I started trying to make electronic music I decided to get an 'all in one' and blew all my money on the (then) $2500+ Yamaha EX-5.

Now, I still love that machine, but I think it would have been smarter of me to get a few different pieces of gear instead.

I think the classic beginner's mistake is not to get something 'too cheap'.. rather the mistake is to think that you are gonna make 1 big decision that solves all your problems. That doesn't work because:
1. 'all in one' setups usually don't have the flexibility/sound quality of a few pieces combined
2. it is important to be able to add/change components of your studio as your production style evolves

My actual advice would be save up $2500 or so, get a used mpc1k for cheap... work with that for awhile, learn more about your own production style.. then use the rest of the money to buy whatever you realize you need next.

Oh and maybe test drive an mpc first, if u really hate the 1k pads then get a used 2kxl instead.

This kind of question will get u all kinds of answers so i guess u will let majaroity rule for deciding. Hmm.

Yes you can.
