what do you do when this happens to you... the brick wall

I just finally cut up a good sample(i've only been a MPC user for about a week) and loaded up. I could get any drum patterns. even when I first stated on FL about 6 monts ago I was bangin out patters in a few hour on beat. Tonight nothing has been on beat or its really wack. I have been using premade drum loops(which I thought were gay until a few min ago). glad I get so many for free with future music mag. So what do most people do when they get the infamout producers block. Or newbie block in my case

i would imagine the first few tries at making music on any new instrument would be tough. keep at it, once you feel really comfortable with the mpc youll be bangin out good shî† in no time

yeh im have the same problem...I just got the MPC1000...im new to MPCs and its beatin me up......i cant even lay down a decent drum pattern....I had grooveboxes but now im tryna step it up but this thing makes me feel like i never made a beat before

what I do is i start tweeking the samples till they sound sound completely diff. then i build off of that.

just bob your head.... tap your foot to keep time..... or keep the metronome on....... start off in 1/8 timing... then to 1/16.... then 1/32... and if your brave... move to no timing correction at all.... iam not there yet...

When I hit a brick wall I just pull out some vinyl or CDs and get to sampling. Build up that arsenal for the next assault! !

But then again I also take the time to play with my kids too! ! When the kids are sleep I just hit the forum up and see what's what!

Dammmmm roach spray ****** iz fowl............its been so long since I smoked but when I did I never wanted to make beats I wanted to hump redbones pretty with perkey nipps...............when ever I used to get stuck in production I would walk away and come back like 20 or 30 mins later......go out take a walk become one with your surroundings that should put you on track

when i hit the wall, i listen to my vinyl, i usually get ideas from them.

to turn off my inner critic:

i'll edit my samples in the sample edit page so all you hear is a "click." then i'll write a track just with the clicks. when i get something that sounds kind of good, i'll go back and re-edit the samples so its the full sound again. if you're lucky a good drumloop will just write itself this way.

i'll just press record and mess around with the mpc and the kp. even if i dont write a "song" some of the noises i make can be sampled latter for breaks or background noise in other songs.

i'll time myself: set a timer and write and record a full track in 30 minutes. this forces you to just "let go" and work fast. a bad track you'd never play out written in 30 minutes is better than no track at all...

i'll do something real boring... like renaming all my samples by hand... trust me, after twenty minutes of that your creativity is just itching to come out.

i'll pretend like im a rapper and rap over some old tracks ive wrote. this reminds me of what im good at

if all this fails i just huff roach spray... cut out the middle man, you hear me?
