MPC1000 RAM and CF card Recommendations

well, i'm not saying it won't work, but given that all the information they list is: S0 Dimm 256 MB PC 133 144Pin, then i wouldn't risk it. the first post in the thread says"PC 133 144PIN CL3 SODIMM 256MB" the CL3 is the bit you should look at. i don't know for sure whether it's crucial for the mpc or not, but i'd rather buy a ram stick that's listed as CL3.

Can someone please post the limits of a completely standard MPC 1000?

1. it can't jump.
2. it can't do the dishes.
3. it can't milk a cow.
4. it's not allowed to enter NASA headquarters.

I am just wondering, if it doesnt have any ram upgrades or hdd installed does it limit the amount of layers you can have, or maybe prevent you from making any half decent beats because there is no space to save sample loops?

depends whether you need long loops to make dope beats or not. i would say it's not necessary. there are no limits, if you don't have the RAM upgrade, apart from the length of total sampling time you have. the hard disk is merely for long term storage, it only gets used when you save. not having the RAM and hard drive does not remove any functions from the mpc, it can do all an mpc with the RAM and hard drive apart from sample for more than 136 seconds in mono.

ooh, i also bought a sandisk cf card. tho i haven't tried it, i'm assuming it will work. bout to put os 2.1 on it and give it a whirl. wish me luck.


*edit. Update worked perfectly, as well as sandisk cf 512 card.

i highly recommend it.

if you had done your research better you would have noticed than Antonym uses this ram and also recommends it.

Is this the same for the MPC2500??? I'm going through a tough time trying to upgrade the RAM in my MPC2500 to 128MB, but the AKAI EXM128 is $150, too expensive! And to what I understand of what you're saying, it'll only use 64MB of that AKAI EXM128 anyway.

Can I use this HYNIX PC133 CL3 SO-DIMM 256MB chip that I was sold for $60 to upgrade my MPC2500 to 128MB of RAM?

no, the EXM128 only has chips on one side, the side that the mpc can read. the 256 is necessary, because laptops read both sides, hence there's 128 per side. go ahead and try the one you mention, i believe hynix make the exm128, so you might be lucky.

This situation worked for the MPC1000, but I'm asking if this same thing applies to the MPC2500. I need to upgrade my MPC2500 and everyones talking about the MPC1000.
