So I've had my MPC1000 for ten months now. Three of which were spent
at VST Service waiting for a new part. A few weeks ago I finally received my sampler back. Today it broke again with the exact same problem.

The memory card reader in my MPC1000 basically turns the data on the card into gibberish. It then refuses to format the card. The cards still work fine on a computer, but they must be reformatted everytime they enter my MPC1000.

I'm posting this in part to vent, but I'm also wondering if anyone has had similar problems?

never heard of shit like that you tried just leaving the card in and doing everything ( loading saving ) through the usb?

Well, Akai tells me they're going to help and then refuses to return my calls.
Great.
Anyway, I do have a hard drive, it works great. I'm just more worried about resale value.

Oh ... and hmmm ... can you update an OS from a hard drive?

Do a search, there was a couple of threads last week (one of which I started) about this very thing. The fact is the CF seems to be very buggy (as do a lot of other things) on the mpc1000.

I was having the similar probs but I started Backing up and reformatting regularly. Also I only create folders using my computer (usb card reader)
which seems to work for me. Also, I never save over anything, I always delete if then resave.. I'm not saying this is a solution but I haven't had any probs since using this way of working

Forget Akai support.
