Got the 4k yesterday and been trying to figure out how to get the sound. I know about assigning programs and all that but i just cant get no sound. In the manual, there is a drawing of the speakers hooked up to a mixer which is hooked up to 4000. Do i need a mixer to get sound. or is there a way i can hook up my house stereo speakers to main outs and get sound. P.S. what are xlr plugs cuz it sez i need those to insert into main outs. Thanks in advance

I haven't got a mixer at the moment, i've got my MPC stereo outs running straight into my computer sound card. I needed a dual RCA (phono) to dual 1/4 inch jack cable

You'll need an amp or run the MPC into the stereo auxilary output, you cant just plug the speakers straight in

anybody know if this is possible? I have such a headache from trying to get sound out of this shit. I just need some sound just to lay something down. Had this 4k turned for on for 30 hours, been moving it around trying to figure if i ca get sound from headphones or main outs. at this point i'd appreciate any help. I don' t see anything on my pioneer reciever that says stereo auxillary output which is what i was told i need to connect the mpc to . please help.

run it into the cd in then, btw, i have a hard time believing your reciever has no aux input. is it hella old? the cables you need are 1/4" (out of mpc) - whatever input you have (rca most likely). you can use xlr or 1/4". 30 hours and you haven't got it yet? go get some sleep, you must be delirious.

Assign the program to a Multi. Go to the main page, go to track and assign the program to a part then the sounds wll come out. You have to read the manual carefully the 4k is setup differently than the other mpcs.

After that if you have active monitors or a home speakers you can decide on the main outs. If monitors plug directly in the outputs in the back, if you got home speakers run a cable from the stereo outs to the home stereo with a rca adaptor to stereo aux inputs not outputs and you are set.

Check out the 4k bible too.

Man, in thirty hours you could have walked down to the nearest music store, kidnapped the guy behind the counter, carried him to your crib on your back... eaten a 5 course dinner... watched the complete set of War and Peace extended edition.. made the music guy hook your shit up for you.. and gotten him back to the store before getting noticed..

What exactly have you been doing in these 30 mysterious hours your MPC 4000 has been turned on?
