how do you sample in reason, I thought reason doesn't record external audio?

you need to do it in another program. save it as a .wav, then import it. you can do it in any program from pt,logic,cubase, whatever.

i say workflow as the no. 1 reason why mpc does kick ass. if its features, and effects, ur looking at the wrong machine. mpc is just an absolute tight unit, some things take a while to get used to (step editing compared to grid-style edits and using a mouse to copy/paste/delete things in the sequence), but after practice u become very quick on the machine....however certain things are quicker to do from the word go, eg. chopping samples and having them ready to play with on pads, recording.....note repeats. i love ableton live, i find it very easy to make tunes on that program compared to other programs, but mpc i dont find has the quickest workflow (from a sampling perspective).

The only reason im interested in the 1k is its a piece of equipment I can flow with, which is the same reason I'm getting a midi keyboard. One of my main problems is I don't know Specifics of what the MPC does. I was thinking about getting MPC Tutor's book just to be on top of it before I buy it and have no problem feeling ripped off because I can get right into it.
One of the main fears is that it will sit somewhere and not get used while im sampling straight into the computer and slicing beats there. Really though I think the different workflow will mix well with what I want to do. I know that I can get samples on the computer cut them up load them into the 1k and make a beat, put that back on the computer and really mangle it to pieces and then put it back in and get some really maxed out tracks out of it. Also I'm thinking about outboard gear vs. going mostly plug-ins.
Here is the items I'm going to get to compliment the MPC tell me what you think.
Vegas 6 + DVD - Im interested in making sick videos and cutting and slicing video footage. I think the mpc would be helpful with being a separate entity while watching footage and making beats that fit the footage tightly before putting them into the footage.

heh i don't think acid pro 7 exists yet...
if you give it a chance, there is a laaaaaaaarge chance that this will plain not happen. i never really looked back at DAW composition after i learned the ins and outs of the mpc. there's something magical about it. it DOES take work, and you'll have a time where you're like "damn yo i could make this way faster on reason or w/e" but then you realize - faster is not always better. it causes you to settle on things that maybe weren't your initial desire. i find the flexibility and ritual of composing on the mpc to be a huuuge boost to my creativity and idea flow.
