Sample assignment

OK im ready for the sarcastic comments and can take them on the chin.

Im not sure what the feature is called, but i want to assigne one sample to 16pads but have it play at different key ranges. Im sure this was a feature of the 2000, but i could be mistaken.

Can this be done on the 2500 and if so what is the correct name of the process.

Cant use the search feature as im not sure what i am searching for terminology wise.

It's called autochromatic if you want it spread over all pads on all banks. To do this, go to program mode, then highlight the tune parameter for the sample, hit window then hit one of the F keys that says auto above it.

This is only available in OS 1.2 so make sure you've upgraded.

You can also do it by hitting the 16 levels button in the main screen, hitting the pad you want and then selecting tune as your parameter.

autochromatic is better though

If autochromatic only does the same function as 16 level - tuning, Im not sure what all the fuss was about...


The 16 level tuning is ok, but since it shortens or elongates the sample, it doesnt help that much.. I had hoped autochromatic would change the key without changing the length of the sample...

I think it's got something to do with auto-assigning the midi notes too. So if you've got the MPC hooked up to a midi keyboard it will play the samples in the correct order

No, that was never the intent of autochromatic. That's why there are multisamples...instruments sampled at multiple notes over all octaves (or even at each single note!), so the tuning doesn't stretch the sample so much that it sounds unrealistic. You'd have to build an own program for those by hand however, autochromatic is useless in that case.
