Any one use the 1000 with protools?

I have the 1000 and a digi 002 rack (protools), I'm a rapper/beat maker and the way I've been working it, is that I'll make a beat in my 1000 then save my song as a sequence, record it, and send it to protools. The problem is that I like to set up my protools sessions as seperated tracks ie. track 1- piano, track 2- bass, and with the way I'm doing it, my whole beat is in one track. Any suggestions? A lot of people say that they "track" their beats but I'm not sure what they mean when they say "track", are they pluging in RCA cords on all the outputs and inputs and sending it that way? None of that stuff is in the manual, and I'm not sure you can do that with the 1000? Any help, or insight on how you do it will be appreciated. Thanks

yea well if they have the mpc 1000 if they are tracking out four tracks they can do that since it has 4 outs in the back. But when they track it in protools they mute all the tracks and leave one unmuted. Then they record each track like that. Till they get all the tracks in pro tools. Thats what they mean when they say that.

how do you connect the mpc to pro tools to track it? is it midi out to usb using a midi/usb converter? thanks in advance.

Here's how to do it.

(And by the way, The 1000 has 6 out's, not 4..)

You need 3 stereo jack cables and one midicable.

connect the jack cables from the out's of the 1000 to the in's on your 002.

Connect the midicable from the MIDI-IN of the 1000 to the MIDI-OUT of your 002.

Set the 1000 to sync, with the port youv'e connected the midicable to.

Set Pro-tools to send MIDI Beat clock to the MIDI-OUT which you've connected the other end of the MIDIcable with (or just check them all), in the midi beat clock dialogue...

The following are all done on the 1000:

Now what you need to do is, to find out what tracks you wan't to track in first (3 stereo or 6 mono at the time).

Use "trackmute" to mute all the track you DON't want to track in right now..

to track out a stereo track, just select the outputs you want to use in the mixersection. While, when tracking a mono track, you have to pan out the tracks to the left or right..

Example.

You want to track out a bassdrum on output 3: Select the output 34 (3 and 4) in the mixer, then pan the volume all the way to the left.


In pro tools:

Create tracks for each track that your'e tracking out of the 1000, and make sure that your'e selecting the right Input source for each individual track.

"Arm" teh tracks (Select record on each track) and press record. Now the thousand should start playing along with protools, with the BPM field saying "EXT"

And, oh yeah, remeber to set the BPM in Protools to the same as it is on the 1000 before tracking...

to answer the question on what do they mean by tracking.... watch the vid that i have called "track and sync" it's not with pro tools but it explains the theory behind tracking. and from the setup that you said you have, you can do exactly that.

If you record into Pro Tools there's really no need to save your song as a sequence, especially if you record each track on the MPC to its own track in Pro Tools.

So it's saved right there in your session. no need to take up memory on your CF or hard drive.

I do this (recording into PT) by first recording a click track.
Then however many tracks I recorded on the MPC, I solo each track and then match it up to the click, then record each individually to its own PT track. It takes longer, but it gives you total control to change things easily in the future..

I do this by going from the MPC into my preamps and into an 001.

well, to even run pro tools you have to have one of their interfaces. Be it an Mbox or an 002 or the m powered or HD. Depends on your needs and budget.
