What's the point of making multiple sequences and assembling them in song mode when you can just do what you do on one sequence? I've pondered over this for a long time as I don't really see why anyone would use that method.

because youre more flexible if you do it that way...

Have you ever examined a DJ premier track? Anyways, most of his tracks follow this pattern (and they arent too repetative) they use two bars.

2 bars - 2 bars - 2 bars - 2 bars of variation-

repeat.

there really arent any chorus section-withexception to a break for scratch-or dub in of some lines from a movie etc.

Really this has worked for me pretty well. Make sure your little "hook" or phrase doesnt really repeat its self more than once in the 2 bars. Then just reapeat the 2 bars 3 times, and on the 4th time, make a variation of the two bars. Most of the time if you come up with a catchy 2 bar hook-the variation will fall in place because it will "satisfy" the first 6 bars? youll feel yourself waiting for that part to hit? ya know.

peace

btw, alot of hiphop hooks are 2 bars, just variations-chorus are added.

oh, forgot to add. ive also noticed that my 2 bars work better if i treat the melody like the drums. For example: you have your drums basic boom-boom-bip well treat the melody like this over 2 bars. A main melody-then an accent to that melody-at the end of the 2 bars. so your melody or small phrase (bassline or whatever) is the boom-boom, then add a stab or an "accent" to the melody-this is your snare or "bip"

feel what im sayin?

peace
