Understanding MIDI

A friend of mine has a Boss Sp 505 and i have an S1000 Sampler. He and I where wondering When you use midi does that suck up the memory and polyphony in the sequencer your using(in this case the 505) or doesnt it matter becaus eteh sounds being triggered are in the S1000. I know the 505 has 8 note polyphony and we where thinking if we use teh 2 together it would help save polyphony simply because the sounds being triggered wouldnt be inside of the sp 505. So is it the sounds being sequenced IN teh 505 or would it bethe buttonstriggering them in the S1000 in the order you play them. Sorry if this is confusing! And we would try it but he lives about an hour away from me.

My guess is polyphony is only being used up where the PHYSICAL sound resides.

As usual, Lamp is correct......Polyphony relates only to the actual sounds being used, not MIDI data....the MIDI data will however use up sequencer memory....unless of course you live more than 20 miles from your friend. In that case, devide the polyphony by 2 and subtract 1 if you drive an SUV. You can save memory by taking public transportation or take 1/2 note credit per 10 miles if you drive a hybrid.
