compressor

Hey there, I have decided it is time to go hardware on the compressor front and dis- use the VST one, I have no idea about brands, but know how to work a compressor, I want a warm but low cost one, it needs to be stereo, are the "really nice compressors" anygood? any reccomendations?

try copping one and leaving it on all day!

Warm and low cost are not easy with compressors, mic pres, and mics ....Drawmer has a decent unit (241) which is not exactly low cost $800 - $900 new, but you can probably pick up one on e-bay for under $400. There are others as well. Compressors get decent in the $400 - $500 range....the cheaper ones serve well as limiters and gates but lack the "Warmth" you speak of in the compressor section. Go used if you can and save up for good gear when it comes to signal processing......

hrmmm....warm compression....
if i hadnt found my focusrite for a bargin on ebay i wouldve got the Art TCS optical/VCA compressor.
the optical mode sounds really smooth for mixdowns and it also have a couple of tubes adding some vintagewarmth.
it's a decent priced good dualchannel compressor that IMO makes nicer compression than the lowend DBXcompressors like the 266xl and the 166xl.

hey that compressor looks ill! bit strapped for cash so I got this Compressor made by a company of Mackie, its nice and punchy, also got a beat up old Zoom FX unit, will do me, got the two for £80. not complainin.
that completes my set up, I like the delay on the zoom, bang it in close and it sounds like something off star wars.
