2000 or 2000 XL??

Hi,
I am planning to get my first MPC for my studio recording. (If you want you can check out some of my tracks at www.myspace.com/smoothways).
The question is whether to get the 2000 or the 2000 XL for another £ 250, because that is the price difference right now.
What I need it for is plain and simple to record my Drum sequences into Logic. The problem I am facing right now is that I can' t get my ideas through REASON and a masterkeyboard the way it sounds in my head - with the PC I am strugglin too much with Latency problem.
I could not find any satisfying answer so far to my question and myself know far too little about this machine. How much can you expand the 2000, once you run out of capacity/memory/buffer?
What would you advise me?

Well first you should know the difference between the two(2000 & XL).

Also the max of memory on them both is 32mb.

If you choose between the 2k and the 2kxl then I would say go for the 2kxl, not only doest t have a few extra functions but you also have more options in storage media. Which is very hand imo, after all you need to save those beats.

But with the SCSI on the mpc2000 u can get more storage media also. If u need a jaz drive, zip drive, ect.. u can get that in the SCSI format. ITs a matter of do u want it external or not. Both are great machines but technical wise u are goin to run into more problems with the mpc2000 than the XL. The mpc2000 has a major issue and thats its screen. Which usually has to get replaced quicker than an XL. Also when wantin to install internal parts(zip drives, cardreaders,ect..) it becomes an problem due to the way the motherboard was constructed. But i mean if u like SCSI and external isnt a problem then the mpc2000 will do u fine. If u dont like SCSI or whatever and u want a pop up screen then go for the XL. I could go on for days about them both but at the end of the day its YOU who is buyin it.

But why would u want sczi anything if u could have a card reader drive

Thanks a lot guys for all your thoughts...I do understand that it is difficult if not impossible finding a straight answer for my question for the simple reason that both these machines are very complex. What I don't worry about is "user comfort" - I actually don' t give a shit right now about the size of a screen or the buttons and knobs - I need to produce my tracks and get on stage. Is there a problem buying a used 2000 rather than the 2000 XL because the screen needs to replaced sooner and then you might end up paying even more.

Im speaking in general. Not everyone might can afford an MPC2000XL so i was tellin him in regards to what the mpc2000 could do if he couldnt afford an mpc2000xl. Also others will read this thread and it would be helpful for them. I never assume on these forum boards.

Self promotion: Since you're in London and thinking of buying a 2000XL, I'm selling my beloved one, which comes with the 8 output board, zip drive and 32MB memory expansion for £450. Let me know if you're interested.

Get the xl and be done with the whole thing.

Of course you can use SCSI on the 2k classic BUT you can not use folders, instead you have to use partitions, the 2k classic does not accept as large disks ask the xl does, the 2k classic does not recognize standard formatted cdroms which makes it a pain in te neck to make your own sample cd-roms, you can not install an internal cardreader in the 2k classic without some major mods to your machine. That is what i was talking about when i talked about storage options. An these options alone are already IMHO worth the extra cash you pay for an xl.
