Every pad and it's own track

Hello again,

another question.

Let's say I jam and create a drumloop on track 1 with a Bassdrum, a snare and a hi-hat.

After finding the right feel I want to be able to leave the BD on track one and put the snare on track 2 and the hihats on track 3 etc.
So the only thing changes is every track will have one sound, the timing has to stay the same.

This has to be done with copying but what's the best procedure to do this?

Why don't you just play out a pattern without record then when you have it down, record each track? That would probably be easier...

Because he already has it recorded?


Just copy the track to how many tracks you need, go into Step or Grid edit, and delete the Pads you don't need in each track. Nothing magical about it...

Easiest way by far is this.

Highlight the track name/number, hit window, hit copy. Repeat this so that you've got 3 tracks, drums, snares and hats.

Then say pad 1 is kick, pad 2 is snare and pad 3 is hat do the following.

select track 1, hit the erase button under the q-link slider, hit pads 2 & 3 then hit do it. This will leave you with the kick on track 1.

Repeat for the other tracks but hit erase and pad 1 & 3 to erase everything but snares on track 2 and repeat on track 3 but hit pads 1 & 2 to leave the snares.

The sequence must NOT be playing when you do this, otherwise you have to erase the pads in real time by holding them down whilst the sequence runs.

Saves you having to go into step edit

Lol, i only discovered it by accident myself!

I'd been doing it the other way i mentioned by going into overdub mode and holding erase and the pad i wanted to get rid of. As you can imagine it took a while as you had to wait for the whole sequence to run to delete all of the hits.

I went to do this one day but forgot to go into overdub and found out about this way

Or, you could also go to Mode- pad 13 (SEQ EDIT), EDIT: COPY, and at the bottom left of the screen, where it says NOTES: press the pad or pads with the desired drum, ie pad AO1 with the kick drum, and on the right of the screen, where it says "From sq: 1 Tr: 1 to sq:" just put in the corresponding track or seq you want that instrument copied to.

thats the exact same way I discovered it

perfect examples of why learning to use the machine hands on is the best way
