I was wondering can yall tell me how to work mute groups function on the MPC 1000. I have read the tutorial and book and I still dont understand how to work it any help will be nice.

it's easy:
:idea: every sample in a mute-group stops (if played) the playback of every other sample in the same mute-group.

You choose a group of samples/pads to mute, not hard at all.

it's even easier!
:idea: if you don't want to use a whole group for just 2 hihat samples you can mute up to 4 samples without touching the 'mute group' feature.

but this explains itself by 2 minutes of trial and error, doesn't it?

the basic functions in mute group are to make sure that each of the samples in your program you want muted are assigned to the same number--i.e. open hat-mute group 1, close hat-mute group 1. Then when you hit the open hat from the close hat, the close hat stops playing. This is very useful when using long-playing instruments like strings or keys. You can really freak the sound, while staying tight on your tempo. I've just been getting into it more and more and I love it.
