Though there are other solutions to the problem:

You can simply turn down the sample in your mixer, and turn it up again when you're in your mixing stage.

You can also change the rate of your metronome, so you hear more clicks per bar (this also helps when you're working on sequences with lower BPMs). From the MAIN screen, press F2, and change the desired rate.

You can even program a loud sample (of your choice), record it at quarter notes, save it as a template, and have it autoload each time you turn on your MP. Then just mute the track later.
