I have a question regarding "zone" editing

How many people use the zone funtion??? I've owned my Mpc for close to 5 years and have never used it until last night. I have many questions....

i use it almost always, simple, effective and fast workflow-wise

ok my first question would be how can i hear the chops without setting it as a program first??

its in teh manual, anyway, when u are in zone editing in the upper right corner u will see a voice named "play:" u can choose between various playback methods, if u choose "zone" u will hear the selòected zone instead of the whole sample.
dont wanna sound rude but i didnt even needed to check the manual for this, its so much under the eyes, why u guys are so shy to experiment with buttons and wheels?

Thanks for the info..... to be honest, the manual has confused me more times than not. Like I said in the og post....I've had my MPC for close to 5 years and have never used the zone funtion ever. I jusr copied a sound and chopped it....copied it chopped it. Its time consuming, I know, but I get the chops the way I like. I was just smoked out last night and decided to mess with it and I made a cool little beat so I figured I'd experiment more with it over time. I was kind of looking for any tricks or tips that anyone could offer me. Once again thanks for your help.

When I had my XL, I used it almost everytime I need to chop something. It really comes in handy.

I always use it to chop on the MPC, unless I just want one section of the sample.

when i started out, all i used to use was the trim screen. but now all i seem to use it for is to maybe cut something off a little or tighten a sample up a little. but i dont really use it for choppin anymore. it was good to me when I used it though! thats why its there for you!

I didn't think the classic (which Smoove uses) had the zone feature on it. You live and learn.

you use your PCs then?

I used to but chopping on the MPC is fun. I much prefer it even though it's quicker and more precise with a mouse. That said, if it's a really long sample, I might use my PC.

yup the 2k can do it, too. its probably easier on the xl since you can use your slider to select your values. on the 2k it dosnt seem to work. i use my pc just because i can do it extra fast. on the mpc it takes a bit longer. nothin wrong with that. i just feel more comfortable chopping in audition.

I honestly don't know how I haven't been using this for the past 5 years...I mean my style has always been based around loops but this just added a whole different style for me!!!

good thinkin man. keep at it yo. you saying that it added a whole new style to me tells me that your open to new things. there's plenty of techniques out there to get you the finished product. if zone edit works for you, do it!! its a tight feature man. use your machine to the fullest

i changed styles a few times. i went from totally keyboard beats to sampling a little to chopping a little to chopping a lot to where im at now. so do what you feel comfortable wit

It's called ZNedit in the 2k classic.
