portable harddrive workin with mpc 2000 midi??

if i get say a 250g external backup type hardrive, and create folders with my seperate noises for each of my songs in them(song 1, song 2,,ect), could i load them from the harddrive to my mpc midi or with anyother fuction. lets say the harddrive has usb and firewire also.? feedback would be the illest.
ive been told no .. and researched.. i dont thinkits possible without software. but if it is let me know. if it isnt....let me know

Are you telling me you're thinking about connecting a usb drive via a usb-to midi interface to your MPC? I'll give you points for imagination since I think you're the first here who ever coined up that idea. But I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you; MIDI has NOTHING to do with DATA TRANSFER to and from DISKS even LESS than it has to do with SOUND. And while we're at it; those scsi-to-usb interfaces that you might come accross don't work neither since they need driver software to operate which you can of course NOT install on your mpc.


My advice get an external SCSI zipdrive or an external SCSI cardreader if you can find one or a small external SCSI harddisk.

yeah. all fingers pointed to it not working. just was double checking. i was trying to avoid zip if i could go with a portable harddrive.

Try to get one of the external scsi card readers, loads of storage, no moving parts.

This post gave me a good laugh for the morning, harddrive through the midi port.
