Just regarding the use of a magnetic screwdriver. There's no way I'd be
putting any sort of magnetic ish near my hardware, maybe its safe i dont know,
but it seems kinda dumb to have it near such sensitive equipment (hard drive, ram etc).

I think the magnetic screwdriver does not have enough force to damage the harddrive.. it just helps specially with the pads board (when it's removed, so it's away from the hard-drive anyway)

Ok... I'll admit I'm nervous. But I have to hit my second pad hard in a certain spot, so now I gotta go through with fixing it. I'm probably going to do it this weekend. What type glue has worked for everyone that's fixed their pads?

I used it to glue 4 corners of the carbon to the pad sensor, as they were originally glued.

Antonym glued the carbon to the underside of the pad rubber, but he used a different type of glue.

Experiment... or read through this whole thread beforehand before you decide how you want to do this.

just wondering, does this pad problem exist just in the blue mpc1000's or also in the newer black version as well?

sorta off this subject but does anyone think akai is goin to make a new pad board for this whole problem any time soon , like make it like the 2000's and other models ?

i was ignoring this problem until i killed 5 pads.
11 out of 16 pads isnt good enough.

I wanted to inspect the carbon in my pads, so after reading the 1st post, here's what I think: once you remove the grey rubber pad from the base, there is no way to get the pad back under the black-metal-frame that used to hold it [pic 15].. So if you want to restore the pad to their factory-like state, you have to remove the whole pad board [pic 07] and use a knife to loosen the black-frame clips [pic 15] and fit the pad under it. I did just that. When the pad finally was back in place, I used pliers to tighten the frame around the pad. I covered the pliers with some black duck take to avoid damaging the black-metal-frame [last pic]. Notice the contact points of the pliers with the pad.. when you apply pressure that way, the pad will fit nicely and feel solid just like it was.

For those of you who think this is a redundant post, it's cool.. As for the others who have had issues with their MPCs but weren't sure/didn't have the courage to open their box.. here ya go! Now anyone* can do it.

Highlights:
-there's 9 screws to open MPC: 6 external + 1 flat one near Compact Flash [pic 06] + 2 underneath Compact Flash cover [pic 06].
-4 that hold the pad board + 2 cables
-2 that hold each pad + 1 cable

hope this helps at least 1 person out there. peace.

THERE !! haha u couldve went back to it on page 9 ....

i have fastened the graphite to the pad
but i cant get the pad back into the black frame.
this is bad.
my pad 1 is sitting completely open and it makes me uncomfortable.
can anyone help me out on getting it back in?
any tips?

i worked it in there (with much difficulty)
but anyway
i tried the double-sided tape on a pad that was completely dead.
before, i could hit the center of the pad as hard as i wanted
and it would respond maybe 1 out of 5 times.
after i taped the graphite to the pad
it seems that i can get a sound every time
as long as i hit the center of the pad.
if i push down on the edges of the pad
i get no sound (with full level on)
