Can't get note repeat to work

I'm testing out a used MPC 4000 which is fairly new
and seems to be in good condition but I can't get
the note repeat button to work and I couldn't figure
out if I was doing something wrong or if it is really
broken. I would really appreciate if I could get
feedback on what I might be doing wrong and maybe
some other functional problems with the MPC 4000
that you might have encountered that I might have
to look out for or end up dealing with.

Note Repeat only works whilst the sequence is playing.

are your pads loaded with sounds...ime sure they are.

are you recording with note repeat pressed down?

what happens? any sound or nothing.

what OS are you using?

I don't know how come I didn't try it in a sequence
before or what I was doing so I couldn't figure that
out. When I was using it I probably wasn't pressing
it hard enough to notice any effect.
