Okay beat this one!! I've been saving all my sounds and projects into the internal Hard Disk (80G Toshiba). So anyway, as weeks go on it freezes everytime I go to "NAME A FOLDER" where I have to NAME it and then restart the machine to actually make music and put stuff in the folder. Fine, but last night I made a song and saved it into the folder, and now every individual sound is replaced with a FOLDER, thats right, 35 FOLDERS!!! and they're all named !!&!##&!&&##&# lol. So, I save whatever else I have onto a CF Card, I go back the next morning to see if the HARD DISK is the same, and now EVERYTHING on my internal HARD DISK is $$###&(##($)#(!!!($). And I CANNOT delete any of it.. SO, I figured I'd still make music and use the MIDI and save to CF Card instead, as I'm hitting notes they get looooooong and never stop at ALL lol. I restart the machine and now theres NO sound coming out of it what-so-ever LOL. Beat that!!

P.S. I'm back on my mpc3000.

I would try taking out the memory and/or hard drive to see if you can isolate your problems. The 3000 is also a great alternative.

You're right, I'm going to take it out and load all my drums from the cards instead, sucks but oh well. The 3000 is my baby. It works great, but the Zip disks keep currupting and I lose so much music. I wanted to install the internal CF card reader but the Microtech one that Rohan said worked is nowhere to be found online, plus nobody else wants to talk about it lol. Oh well, until the bugs on the 2500 are completely worked out one day I'll keep on the 3000 minus the effects.

Most of what people are reporting as 'bugs' are really not. I use my 2500 everyday without any problems.

i have had trouble w/ only a couple of the reported bugs. The only two i had is the System Test, messed up MTC, and the midi notes not recording all 88 notes. I find that alot of u guys problems come from having a hardrive, using USB, and the cd-writer. I don't have any of those things and have had hardly any trouble. Those peripherals are useless if u ask me... I've got a 512MB CF card which has held me down for over 2 years (used it w/ my 1000) and i still have some space. If i need to do serious editing of files on the CF card i pop it in my media card reader and i'm good.

But i basically agree w/ lampdog... most of the bugs u guys post are either user errors or defective hardware.

If my 2500 gave me problems, I would get rid of it and use something else...simple logic.

By dax917 Sat Sep 09, 2006 4:52 am
Right, well the bug that I mentioned was the MIDI notes, which happens to be what I need. When the Hard Drive was flipping out I just resorted to the Cf Card no problem, but when the MIDI notes were bugging out which they have been before, and no sound was coming out of my 2500, thats sort of a problem for production. If I was making music from home only to have fun as my expensive hobby then fine. My friend and production partners such as Younglord and Ryan Leslie and myslef can't afford to be in the studio on budget next to the artists signed to major labels and have our equipment have these errors in the middle of tracking a session, also, this is the only piece of equipment in our history that has EVER had any sort of problem that would cause us to lose our music in the middle of a session. Not acceptable. 3000 it is until this stuff is this 2500 stuff is cleared up for good.

Also, I'm wondering how anybody that produces hip-hop gets a good work flow when it comes to chopping up loops and re configuring them to make new loops. On the 3000 if I copy a loop 4 times, whatever name I gave them goes in the library in alphabetical order so I know where it is, on the 2500 no matter what the circumstance you have to scroll all the way to the back of the program sounds list to find the sound you last created even if it has the same name as the other sounds, Example: I make 3 sounds called DARKNITE1, DARKNITE2, DARKNITE3, if I sample lets say 100 drum samples and decide to make a DARKNITE4 sound later, it WON'T group with the other DARKNITE sounds, instead it will go behind all the other drum sounds, thats a step backward. Especially when trying to chop them and tap the pads to listen to where you are while you're making the new loop pieces attach.

Also, on the 3000 if you tune the 4 samples down to -25 lets say cuz you hear something else you can chop up while its in that lower octave, all you have to do is hit any pad and the trim parameters on the LCD change to that sound of whichever pad you hit, on the 2500 you have to Cursor Up to the sound list and scroll throught 100 sounds to get the other sound you want to chop while forgetting what it is you heard you wanted to do in the first place, plus you can't even hear it in the octave you want cuz once you go to TRIM MODE it automatically tunes it back to "0".. been on the 2500 for 5 months, made 12 beats, lost them all. Been on the 3000 for 2 days and made 6 beats, still have them.. I wish I could have done it on the 2500 because theres so many powerful things it can do, but I can't. I lost valuble music for clients that I can't ever get back. We should stop acting like these MIDI note problems and machine freezing issues are normal things that any educated person should spend their time working around when their trying to flow and get work done.

Precisely why I'm pursuing a post-bach in computer science.

I would say that your situation really sucks. As with any product, it's the amatures and other non-here-take-our-product-since-you're-famous people who pay for product development. The only way to make money is to take it from the people who can't afford it.

Your problem is definitely a software problem since it's consistant with the HD and CF.

dax 917 your right man those things iritatates me to. the machine doesnt work logical i noticed those things the most the first week i got the mp

because i had never used one before i have always worked with reason and never really sampled anything only since the mp

and what i hate the most is that i cant edit a sample while the beat is playing if it could do that i could make beats al day

If you feel the MPC 2500 doesn't work logically, you have obviously never used an MPC before. Its works exactly the same as MPCs have for almost 20 years. It may not be for you. And you can edit a sample while the beat is playing, but only start/end points. If you know of a similar product that would allow you to do what you need it to do that is better than the 2500, you should stop playing and buy that product. Why waste your time? You can sell your MPC and buy all the Refills and samples that you will ever need.

I have a Roland 88-key (weighted keys) master keyboard controller. The 2500 can faithfully record all notes up and down the keyboard. This was not so in an earlier OS. My MPC 2500 has never froze on me in the middle of tracking.

Now if you are having problems with your MPC crashing, this is not normal. You should send it for repair/replacement if its hardware related. If its software related, then that would seem like it would effect ALL users. I haven't had a crash and I have kids that use the MPC and put it through the motions.

Now what dax917 describes sounds like some serious stuff going on. It does not sound completely software related. These problems can occur with a number of hardware related issues. As you refer to the MPC 2500 is the only piece of equipment in our history that has EVER had any sort of problem that would cause us to lose our music in the middle of a session.....you have obviously never used an MPC with an earlier OS. Hell, have you ever used a computer to track? Anyway, if the 2500 is holding you back, logic says get rid of it. If you will not get it fixed, or exchanged and want to continue using it in its current state, I advise you to track you MPC 2500 tracks into Pro Tools or what ever software you are using. That way, you will have no issues when clients come over.
The 3000 is also a good option that I use myself. It you want something that is pretty much solid and straight forward, its great. But it can't really tough the power and flexibilty of the 2500. The 2500 has dozens of extra features. But that would mean nothing to someone whose MPC crashes and loses work. Professionally or just using it at home as an expensive hobby...if my MPC 2500 doesn't perform, it will have to go.

The 2500 is not the 3k, look deeper into the box.

-- In the TRIM window if hit OPEN WINDOW and change the PITCH in that screen that's the screen that affects the pitch when in TRIM mode.
-- In the TRIM window hit MODE PAD1, will take you to the Q-link screen where you can tap a PAD to select a sound then MODE PAD6 takes you right back to the TRIM screen with the new sound selected. Much quicker than scrolling.

I loved my 60, 3k, and 2k's but I couldn't go back to one of them, strange because I was one of the original 2500 haters.

I just tend to work on the 2500 lke on the Triton I don't copy I edit and save as a new sound.
Means I am always working from the original, same as if I was on the computer.
I have never been one to care for destructive editing.
I also just name the original and let the 2500 name the others.
As for the grouping just assign the sample to a pad and then the select from the Q-link screen I stated in the post before this one works.

No doubt the 3k was a great machine but being different isn't necessarily bad in the 2500 case.
They could have left the typical PAD tapping like the older MPC's but the additional selection of listening points and loop listen from the PADS are a great trade-off.
They make the trim screen quicker and more functional.
Of course they put it in a Mode that prevents the typical Pad tapping the Trim had previously, but I can still do that quickly other ways.

YOU COULDL ALWAYS INSTALL A LAPTOP HARD DRIVE IN YOUR 3000..
http://www.mpc3000.com/zip_install.htm SCROLL DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE. HELL....THEN U WON'T HAVE TO DEAL W/CORRUPTED FILES.
