the zoom function on it is weak period after coming from a computer sequencer.

I ask because it was sort of obvious that you came from a computer based sequencer. MPCs will most likely never do everything computer software can..not matter how much we beg for these features. Many people use MPCs because they hate sequencing on computers. MPCs have been around for almost 20 years. Previous model MPCs do even less (minus the MPC 4000).

jj's way of implementing this zoom funtion is amazing....when I used my homies 1000 I was suprized how far and fast I could zoom into the sample..not having to open another window to zoom.....anyhow yea.. its good shit

you'll see. it's really nice. it's like...by percentage instead of integer, and zooming makes the percentage smaller. real nice.

cyrus or whoever asked about my major - i'm an english major so i can get a job at a general store in Fairbanks Alaska when i'm to old to keep hoping for a job making beats for a living. i don't take my major very seriously, but i was supposed to be some sort of mark twain. used to write a LOT of fiction before i got interested in making music.

Will JJ support the new MPC 500? I can't wait to get the first portable MPC! Now this is how you do beatz on the go :P

haha are you picking one up? they do look like fun. anyone who's good on an mpc would be good on a 500, i bet...but i'd imagine it'd be a difficult one for someone to learn on, you know?

i have no idea whether they'll support the 500 or not. it'd be nice if tehy just made the os they're cranking out apply to all 3 new mpcs. however, the lower polyphony makes me wonder if the processor in the 500 is less than the 1000/2500.

who knows?

Yeah i knwo what your saying coming from a computer background certain aspects of it are limiting for me. But the zoom bugs me, it seems like its all or nothing with the zoom. I think you should be able to zoom in and out more like a camera, is it by percentage or something like someone else said. and you should then have two more buttons to move side to side in zoom mode. like zoom mode should be linked to the cursor buttons. Also as someone else has said you should be able to use the q-link sliders in zoom mode to.

you should also have a way of fading out your samples as well to help you when trimming. again perhaps this is already a function and i havnt found it yet, but hey when time isnt on your side its hard to get indepth with a piece of kit that has a lot of functions.

would also be nice to be able to have more than 2 effects at anyone time, this option is very limiting because once you have set the peramitiers for an effect that is it for evey time you use it, right?

if you have answers and im missing them i would appreciate help.

sorry to keep bringing this up, but it looks like simult is on the platter for the new os's...probably won't be on the first 2500 os, but it's in the future!

You are not sorry for bringin this up...that's what you do

But for real..they should first fix what's wrong the OS first..and then add an additional feature. Simult is cool..but its the last feature I think about when using my older MPCs.

Oh....and tell then to stop BSing. If they really want improve the OS...give us mutliple continous sample tracks...give us seperate filter and/or EQ per sample layer....give us the ability to resample lowering the bit/sample rates....give us the ability to load files from ALL Akai formats, Roland, and Emu...give us the ability to split stereo samples into 2 MONO or vice versa...give us...well you get the point....real features..features that the work arounds are more difficult to accomplish than just SIMULT.....

Coming from a REAL MPC head

so if its so easy to put this feature in the mpc how come akai didnt do it ....CAZ YOU THINK OF IT LAST when u use your mpc..... well its the first when I used my 2000 .......multi filters are the same shit as simult........aswell as multi eq and pans but u wouldent know that caz u said u started to use simult like last week....simult would give us multi lfo's per layer aswell.... its a REAL FEATURE for a real MPC head...when I used that simult in 98 I considered my self a "real head" but if "real heads" want their machien to jerk them off and tickle their balls aswell I dont wanna be a "real head"

we can split a stereo into 2 monos already. i thought the 2500 akai os could do that too?

give us seperate filter and/or EQ per sample layer

'
this cannot be done on 1000/2500 due to pgm file architecture. massive reworking of the code has to be done for this to happen, and it's just not logical when time could be better spent on other, more easy to implement features. hence simult to take care of the lack of filtering seperate layer.

i'd rather see qlink grid than being able to read more than snd and wav.

bitrate parameters would be really awesome though. unfortunately, i don't see it happening unless they implement it into an effect - and the final output would still be 16 bit, it'd just be a masking effect, kind of like dx bit crushers. i'd still love to see it happen though - what if bit crushing params were applied to qlinks - and automated?  it'd be rediculous...

yeah massive reworking of the code would have to be done but then you have to ask yourself...how come AKAI didn't do this to begin with for the 2500???

because I would love to have bit grunger on certain tracks specifically

but its not like I can't get around it though y'know

yeah q link on the grid would be nuts
