Pad Sensor

O.K., so I had the same problem again that I had when I first bought this machine(blue MPC 2000XL). At that time it seemed that the connector for the pad sensors was loose. It's worked well for about 6 months now, and recently failed again. This time I've checked all the connections - the ribbon etc. very carefully. Still no pad reaction AT ALL.

I've tested by going Shift + 5, then Shift + F1, by loading sounds and trying to assign to a pad, etc.

My question is this: does someone know if this can only be the pad sensor? In other words, if I order a new sensor sheet will it fix this problem or should I send the machine off. I'm not affraid of doing work like this, but I'm not an electronics engineer.

Remove it and replace it back. If that doesnt work then it needs replacing. I just replaced a fella's pad sensor sheet on his 2000xl. The sensor sheet is 89 bucks from VST.

I have not tried cleaner, but it is very clean inside. no oil or dust etc.

Underneath the pads is mint. There are no cracks or anything in the ribbon, the pads aren't even worn. I was very careful to put the ribbon back in the right slot - I checked many times.

What happened is this - I was using the MPC monday, turned it on, the pads didn't react for about 5 seconds - then they were fine for the hour I was using it. Yesterday I turned the machine on - no pads. I removed the cover etc., got them working again, so I thought, put it back together to find it once again did not work. Has not worked since. This machine also had this problem when I bought it used. Seemed to be the connection at the time - definately not the connection now.

Can the pads stop working even though there is NO physical damage whatsoever?

Just tried cleaning under pad rubber and ribbon contacts - nothing.
