yeah massive reworking of the code would have to be done but then you have to ask yourself...how come AKAI didn't do this to begin with for the 2500???

because akai didn't start from scratch on the mpc2500 operating system.

give us seperate filter and/or EQ per sample layer

this cannot be done on 1000/2500 due to pgm file architecture. massive reworking of the code has to be done for this to happen, and it's just not logical when time could be better spent on other, more easy to implement features. hence simult to take care of the lack of filtering seperate layer.

i'd rather see qlink grid than being able to read more than snd and wav.

bitrate parameters would be really awesome though. unfortunately, i don't see it happening unless they implement it into an effect - and the final output would still be 16 bit, it'd just be a masking effect, kind of like dx bit crushers. i'd still love to see it happen though - what if bit crushing params were applied to qlinks - and automated?  it'd be rediculous...

That's fine and all,but you still would like to be able to save to many other formats other than wav. You say what you say, because your more into tricking effects with sounds etc.I agree with jahrome and you.why not have both. 8)

well, it's an issue of likelihood based on current code. reading more files is unlikely, just as bitrate bullsh!t is...at this point we're all sipping on the crackpipe as far as likelihood goes...unfortunately. unless more people were to get together on this code, we'll never see that stuff. however, if more people were to get together on the code, we'd have more bugs as well.

I don't know about that....

When the MPC 2000 (or it could have been the XL), it didn't initially read non-Akai formats. An OS upgrade changed that....

Why would Akai make a sampler that isn't compatible with their own formats....its a slap in the face for long time Akai users. I guess that are just catering to you new guys..that won't even be using Akai products a few years from now.....

haha i can't picture myself using anything other than an mpc. out of speculative curiousity, what would you imagine me using? a shoebox w/ rubber bands of varying thickness stretched across it?

...

cuz that'd be dope.
as for the other formats, i wouldn't be at all upset if they put it in there. as of now i just have no personal use for em, so of course i'm not so interested.

my involvement w/ this whole os this is REALLY REALLY selfish  i just want something that's basically tailor made to my own workflow so i can just get deeper and deeper into my songs more conveniently. so far so good!

Well, of course you wouldn't...your MPC doesn't have the ability to load CD Roms......

Well, if you didn't use an MPC, you would go back to what you were using before you purchased the 1000......

And MPCs are really not that deep.....if you really wanted to get 'deep' there are much better alternatives...

acid and reason? hell no. i'd buy an sp1200 and wish i had something like a 1000.

if such alternatives exist i am positive you don't know how to pronounce their names, although i'm sure you could pay for them

Reason 3 is more powerful self-contained unit than your MPC....I know, because I own it.

It was the 2k classic that wouldn't read wav.

wav is not their own format.

As for pgm's many of the mpc's have newer parameters in pgms that the next mpc might have to drop some of those parameters, then note placement is kept, other parameters are dropped.

I know wav is not Akai's format.

I was talking about formats from companies such as Roland, Yamaha, Emu, etc..as well as Akai S1000/3000 formats.

The newer MPCs can't read Akai S1000/3000 or Roland format CD Roms...

You laugh Ato, but hes got a good point. If you have a prob with the MPC then phone Akai, are they going to tell you to unload your "unsupproted" OS before they will help. Or what about when you send it off to repair??? Will they have problems fixing it because it has unusal OS on?

I dont like this route, i admit at first I thought it was a good thing but now I'm thinking that it will allow akai breathing space to maybe concentrate on that new MPC.... whatever the fook its called, and not develop the 2500's OS. Grrrrr.

Rant rant.

it isn't really a good point. what's stopping you from reinstalling an akai os before you call/send it in?

that is if you cant figure out what's wrong for yourself, and at this point in my interaction with the mpc, if i were ever to have a serious problem (a tiger came in and pissed on my mpc), it wouldn't be akai i would call, it'd be VST for a replacement board or w/e needed fixing.
