thanks to all you posters out there. i got the jj going today and it's looking pretty sharp. your info has been most helpful. i have joined the forum and will be harassing you with questions. hopefully i can provide some answers as well.

i was wondering if any of you make house or techno with the MP. i know it has a reputaition as a hip hop machine. i recently switched my studio and production method to all hardware. i record to a 2 track on my mac but i'm saying F*#K staring at a computer screen when it's time to make music.

what up. i been making house and techno on the mpc since the 2000 came out in '97. now with the jj os for the 1000, it gets even better!

i do not make house or techno, but the mpc is great for anything - not necessarily just hip hop - and now especially due to this os. so dig in.

I fully trust my mpc1000 to do the performance-I barely need to look
at it-
and now,with mute recording,tek/house style breakdowns are so easy:)
I used to record live mpc4000 performances-just convert a long song to
a sequence,and get busy on those mutes-then track the whole mess into protools over wake and bake the next day:)

I'm doin breaks / drum'n'bass on the mpc and it rocks.
I use it because I hate using the pc. the only issue I had was polyphony but there's always ways around things on the mpc.
I'm looking forward to gett'n the new jj o.s. but it sounds like there's still some bugs to be ironed out.....

really tired of flashing lcd screen when i make music... more power to the ears with mpc!

breaks and electronic (?) here. only just converted to the mpc after buying it ages ago it sat there as i was too lazy to learn it.

now i have invested some time into it and i have that happy feeling i once had many years ago with the alesis mmt8.

the pc is quick for editing but for inspiration you get nothing back.

the only problem i'm having is tracking into the pc. once i see my tracks on there the temptation is very great to flick another synth line in there or add this/take out that.

so i'm in the middle of negotiating with myself a compromise i hope i can tell myself 'it's ok, the pc is allowed for essential work'.

I still can't imagen making drum'n'bass with a mpc, unless if you use it as a sequencer for outboard gear... but programming or drumming al those fast drumbreaks in with no grid editor? I'm curious how you guys do that

There are tons of people who make music that is not hip-hop
with the MPC, as you can tell by these posts. Sh** remember 'The Loft'
recording studio in Bronxville? They used to do everything from brittany spears to movie soundtracks. They had an MPC 2000 classic sitting
in the B room. One day they made me alphabetize their zip disks.
When that was done, I did the dishes.

If you get nice on that 1000, maybe you can do the dishes for them
too one day. You can dream, can't you?

I drum it in with my electro drum kit , works a treat !
good quantize options makes it easy to tidy up.
... such a quick and fun way of working.

There IS a grid editor in the JJ OS... and it's a bit more advanced than the 2500's.

MPC works fine on digital dub also...
