Dropping out tracks on MPC 2000xl

Ok I've had my MPC for awhile and I love it but I'm still frustrated when trying to make complete songs. For example when I make a complete song built from sequences and then later I want to just drop a snare out, do I have to make a new sequence each time I want to do that? I love the track mute function but there doesn't seem to be a good way to use that for recording songs. It would be great if there was a better way to do this y'know?
If I had the 8 outs expansion, I could just drop the channel out with the snare while I'm recording to my PC but that still wouldn't affect the actual sequence.

The only real-time drops I can think of is mute on/off track or pad (pads correspond to tracks).

Place the snare on a track by itself and later use the MUTE button, then press F6 (pad). Now you can control the realtime mute of the snare's track just by pressing the pad/track.

i've been trying to figure that out for days and when i asked all i got was "read the manual... blah blah". so anyways, thank you lampdog for asking and denzelcollins for answering.

you can hold down "Erase" and press the pad on the track playing of the sound (snare) that you want removed and then you could recreate a track for the SNARE only, while the kick or whatever will be the only sound playing on that track. So if you get a groove, beat it up and repair and assign later. peace

I already have my snares on another track and I thats how Ive been doing it so far. What I was hoping was that there is a way to like alter a sequence so that it drops out automatically so I dont have like 50 different sequences for one song. How do yall go about it?

ok, this should work out just fine. If you have an external mixer, throw your snare up on that board. Now you should be able to hit mute on the mixer. This will however require better timing skills. This way, you will not need to have the snare on its own track.

Automatically would mean making MANY pre-programmed snare dropout sequences, adding them into song mode according to where you want them. No way around that. It's possible to end up with as many seq's as you have dropouts/changeups. Unless you make long seq's with multiple dropouts/changeups.

That requires more work to be done than just using the track mute button, yes?. Track mute would make that easier and it's done all inside the MPC natively.

the easiest way possible.
highlight sequence on the main screen
open window
COPY SEQUENCE
mute the snare track on the copied sequence
go into song mode
repeat your origional loop however many times you desire
then drop the snareless loop next
then go back to the og loop

the best way is like this:

make sure your drums are sequenced on individual tracks. Copy your sequences using "bars" in edit.

Mute the tracks you want. "open window" on "track mute" and earse all track that are muted.

arrange your seq, in song mode.

Seriously this may not be your favorite way, but i guarrante you that the more you use "song" mode, the more you will like it and realize that it helps get your songs finished. And you will be able to actually hear the result, as opposed to just "half assin it"-soon you will realize that you need bridges, or transitions for your hook and verse. Basically, the "song" mode is an advancement of the sequencer-so if you just use loops, thats all your doing is looping. use song mode and you will end up with better shiat.
