I wish the MPC 2500 has nothing in common with its cheap counterparts. In fact, if Akai drops another highend MPC, I will just give my 2500 away and use the newer model.

1. as mentioned, the ability to play pads while in the load screen. i'm still trying to get used to not being able to do that after having the 2000xl.

2. it would be interesting if the slider could be used to imitate scratching. move the slider up, it plays the sound forward depending on the speed you moved the slider, and if you move the slider down, it would play the sound backwards. this would be more convenient than having to record yourself scratching a kick from a turntable over your sequence.

3. stereo to mono convert rather than having to resample would certainly save time.

4. rather than seeing all events in step edit, it would be nice if you can switch it so that it only shows the events that occur at the current step, like with the 2000xl.

5. the ability to set a default device. every time i turn on the 2500, i have to change the device to be the hard drive because it's always defaulted to the compact flash.

6. step editing from the main screen like with the 2000xl as someone mentioned would be nice as well. being able to just hold record and press a pad and have it placed in the sequence.

7. in trim, the speed at which you spin the data wheel relates to the speed that the end points move like with the 2000xl. i can't get used to having to hold shift and hit the cursor keys. i keep accidentally changing the contrast because i'm still holding shift when i turn the data wheel.

8. is it just me, or can you record track mutes and they show accurately in the step editor, but it doesn't actually do anything?

jj's done a lot with the qlink, maybe something like this will happen someday. before they ever released an os, they made some weird mpc plugin (it was an os from scratch, not based on the akai os like the current one) where you could do that. it was called "wing" or something, and is no longer available for download.

you can already select which events you want to view...is that what you're talking about?

the Jenius os trim function is FAR superior to the akai

Yeah...some damn genius took the MPC 2500s OS and removed its CD functions as states they have no plans to add it in the future WTF?

i don't need to play the sequence while in the load screen. after i load a sample on the 2000xl i would normally hit the pad to make sure the sound was there, and even hit other pads to see if the sounds matched. can't do that with the 2500.

no, i'm not talking about the type of events to view. on the 2500, under "all events" it shows every single event for the current track, no matter what step they gets triggered. on the 2000xl, you could set it so that it would only show the events that occur at whichever time is in the Now field. so if you were at step 001.01.00 you would only see the events that get triggered at 001.01.00. if you want to see the events that get triggered at 001.01.48, you'd have to move to that step. it's just a lot less confusing to see it that way i think.

Yeah that would be nice , but aren't the sliders way too stiff to do something like that?

Just set "Auto-load" to "Harddisk"
(You know , in the load screen where you see "Load from : HARD DISK" , just select that and press window.)

thanks, i never thought of doing that. when i first got the 2500 it kept tickin me off that autoload was on and it was loading akai sounds, so i searched the manual for how to turn it off. i didn't realize that would make it set the default device as well.

Well , i never thought of doing that either
but i tried the autoload feature to load a default template and noticed that my harddrive was the default device since then.
