MPC 500 pads assign midi

Hello and peace to all,
If any Mpc500 users can so kindly tell me if you can assign each pad to a midi note of your choice, like on the 1000? thanks in advance

mode + pad 6 to get to Program mode, then use the data wheel to get to the MIDI assign page (about 17 screens in).

Why would you need each pad to have a different midi channel?? What would be the purpose for that??

The pads will control multiple midi channels if that is your question .

For default MIDI note numbers, it's Mode+Pad 7 (about 5 screens in) this looks like the quicker way to do it (I'm still figuring this thing out, so bare with me).

Upright, I would have the mpc500 for sequencing various vsti's and I would like to split up the midi channels to different pads. So that in one program on the mpc I can play vst's assigned to different midi channels

Oh.......ok.

you mean assign midi channels to tracks? if you're gonna use a vsti, pressing 1 pad is gonna give you one note per channel.

I was gonna question that but I figured he knew what he was talking about. I don't have any experience with vst's.

I usually load up a "Basic" program, that has all the pads assigned the way I like it.
Then save a new program from that template, but it good to know how to switch it up.
I don't know about different MIDI channels for different pads.

Looks like you can assign each track to diff MIDI channels, hit "Track" then "Params", then about three menus in you can choose what MIDI ch the track feeds.
I don't really mess with that too much, so maybe this is what you're lookin' for.

Your not sequencing midi instruments with the 500?? I don't know why I'm so shocked, I'm not either.

How is your main setup ran??

I have a 2000XL as my sequencer, then I just multitrack to PTLE.
I usually lay down the drums then add a track at time (what ever the track needs), I usually just hook up what I need MIDI wise when I need it (no real method to my madness).
One day I'll wire up the lab, in an orderly manner.

Actually the reason i have thought about the whole midi channel per pad is because I would want the 500 to control all my software synths. The akai mpd24 says it will allow different midi channels per pads. Maybe I will wait for that to come out. But I really need a good hardware sequencer so I am torn between the mpd24, and the mpc500.
