We all have points of view. I think the world needs less defensive sectarian thinking and more critically, creatively and cooperatively thinking individuals. My opinion on the mpc1k is that it is a mighty musical instrument and production buddy, despite a few technically weird decisions on Akai's part. The sequencer capacity of the mpc 1k is one of those. Almost anyone can work around it with pretty basic midi/audio skills. I also think one can expect more of a product like this *today*, given the development in music and cost of components. Progress. If you're interested, read my posts to the thread I mentioned above.
I totally agree with what you just wrote, but on the other hand, I feel that a lot of individuals are getting lost in the technical aspect of instruments, and are forgetting about the rest. I mean, at some point, people have to stop thinking about the specs of the equipment, and just use it. I know few of those who own very expensive instruments, and they don’t make any fat beats. I know others, who own only mpc1000, midi keyboard, and a computer, and they make dope tracks. So, making music is more about creativity and the creative use of what you own, rather then trying to get the best equipment possible.
Also, I’m not trying to be a defensive thinker. I’m not defending Akai for downgrading from 300,000 to 100,000. I guess I’m just tired of reading about people complaining about 100,000, if they haven’t even got close to 50,000. Yes, there will be few who will get to 100,000, but it will not happen often. And once they reach that limit, they will always have a possibility of selling their MPC1000 and purchasing MPC2000/3000. Then they will be able to proudly say: “the MPC1000 was limiting my creativity; I needed something with better specs”.
I hope that now you understand better what I meant in my first post.
