simple ones, but useful (i'll admit i'm a not a pro user lol)
let the drums breathe (don't go mad with the drums). Keep them simple and don't add too much to them.
Read the manual! (i'm still finding shit i never knew existed lol)
Don't quantize just because everyone else does. It only works for some.
Get rid of the metronome!! For me it gets in the way. Gettin rid of it allows you to experiment more, but you need to be able to count bars!
Think like a musician, not a programmer. Don't look at the MPC like a drum machine. As a machine the MPC is a stupid. It only does what it's told.
Don't copy other producers, e.g. JDilla's drums, cos you're proving **** all and in my view it's just dumb. Simple things like: layering, ajusting pitch, sampling at different tempos, experimenting and digging can all improve your drums.
