i have a drum program loaded. kick snare open and closed hat cymbal swell and some other various sounds. the cymbal swell is a longer sample, when the sequence is playing whether recording or not, if i hit the cymbal swell, it gets cut. the program is set to poly and all of the notes playing are all set to poly, i checked every pad in every bank and they are all set to poly. i cannot figure out what is cutting the sample. could someone enlighten me please?

thanks

can you post the pgm/seq/wavs as a zip file?

i could but i dont really want to put my chops out there. i am going to record over this track, and i dont want to comprimise it. not that its going to be released or anything. if nobody can come up with anything, i will give it to you through email though. actually ive noticed this on a few songs that i have been working on. longer samples are getting cut off. thanks for the reply earwolf. i apprecieate it.

You should check if the mute points are off

alright. i will look into that. gotta crack open the book for that one. would they be on by default? ive never used a mute point, so im not sure how it would have been turned on. but then in the midst of creation, buttons get pushed, knobs get spun. ill check it out. thanks alot.

If all of your sounds are stereo, you could be maxing out your polyphony??

that might be. i did record the samples in stereo. sometimes it will play through though. thats whats strange, its like its playing mono, but its not. maybe when i hit the pad that ms to early or late it is affecting it. i will resample the sample in mono and see if that fixes it. but i gotta find the mute points first to make sure they are off. good point though. thanks a lot.

Sounds like Polyphony. If all your stuffs in stereo then you can max out at 16 which is easy to do.

you dont have to resample just go into program mode(Mode + Pad 11). And put polyphony to mono

sounds a lil like polyphony to me too. make sure all your often repeating samples are trimmed well, and that they're set to mono

so hats don't overlap, cuz if they repeat often enough, hats alone could find themselves taking up 8 voices of polyphony when they should max take up 2 if they're stereo (1 if they're mono).

sometimes i like the polyphone when i chop up a sample and create a new program but it kinda sucks when you want to overlap some sounds..

so just using mono and trimming your chops good is the key essence :)

here's something.

sometimes i do synth work on my mpc from sample collages, creating my own sustain etc. i put the sample on note repeat at some high level, set it to POLY and record it, then filter sweep it, etc. this gives a very nicely textured synth. however, it EATS polyphony. sometimes these can take nearly 32 voices themselves, depending on how fast the notes are triggered.

so often what i do is just resample it down on my sp404 for more effects tweaking or just on my mpc so it's one file.

a bit tedious (wish we had unlimited polyphony, but whatever, if we had no limits to our machine we wouldn't be forced to try new things).
