Which version of JJ's OS is best for me?

I'm getting my 1000 back after rockin wit my 2000 classic the past few months and want to give this JJ OS a try. Now I understand some of the versions only upgrade midi performance and other very advanced features that I wouldnt really use. The features I'm most interested in trying out on the 1000 are the Chop Shop and Autochromatic Tuning. I will be doing some midi sequencing with reason in the MPC for baselines and keys n such but most of my beats use chopped samples or loops. Thanks for the help guys.

nope, get the REAL DEAL. the beta is just a jumping point so you can install the jj os.

the beta will give you a taste, but there is no 1k user who wouldn't benefit from the jenius os

3.06. The later versions do offer mostly midi features. 3.06 is free. Try it. You would swear the guys who reply to these posts work for JJ. Some people do not have ONLY $30. This is supposed to be a site where you can get your questions answered, not where you get criticized for asking questions.

True... but for someone to spend hundreds of dollars on an MPC and then bawk at $30 to upgrade to the most powerful mpc OS available on any MPC is a little crazy if you ask me

yo, i think 6 pad grid edit and exploded qlink use EASILY justifies the 30 dollars, not to mention the other stuff. i remember people saying that they'd pay 30 dollars for simult alone!

i think that anyone who has an mpc should get the $30 os, not because i'm "working for jj" but because it gets you a step closer to getting your money's worth when you buy a machine that's close to 1 grand. this comes from a guy who bought his 1k and used 1.07 for a year. comparing that to now makes my head hurt. that's why i think every man, woman and child should have the jenius os.

i just feel bad for those who buy 1ks and never look online about em - they risk missing out on this completely.

there's also selfish motivation involved here. 1, the more people who buy the os, the btter it is for everyone who has it since there's more interest and therefor more effort put in by jj. 2, the community aspect - the more people who have the os, the more people TALK about it, and the more ideas we get and share. my mpc isn't even put together right now and yesterday i had a HUGE breakthrough simply by taking notes on something that someone else had said regarding qlink layers.

one more thing while i'm at it. think about this - a PC or MAC program that does any of the stuff that the jenius os does would cost way more than 30 dollars. the 30 dollars is more of a tip of the hat to the jjs than anything else.

so if it ever seems like i drop the link to the biglobe site a lot, or allude to functions on os 4.xx, or whatever, it's for the above reasons, not because i'm "working" for anyone but myself.

frankly, the jenius os is the best thing to happen to ANY mpc.

never shortchange yourself by claiming that you probably wouldn't use these "very advanced features!"

none of the features on JJ's os are incredibly advanced in the sense that they're difficult to learn or implement. the os is just as easy as the original os, in fact, it's easier in a lot of ways. i moved from programming everything in reason's sequencer to makign beats in the mpc, and i had a hard time moving from a grid sequencer to the mpc's step edit. solution: jenius grid. the jj's grid edit screens (both of em) are great! i'm in there whenever i record anything.

so give yourself more credit - nothing in this os is too advanced for you, and i bet that if you explored em here and there, you'd find that you definitely could use them in what you do to really wonderful effect, especially because so many of these functions are non-genre specific. they aren't geared toward hip hop or electronica or anything in particular - they're just really good fkign assets to making dope music.

What he said! The point for me is that the guy (JJ) has done the work, and he should get paid for it.
