what jimbo said is true because the video does not should you how to ableton live. the guy in the video used live like mpc. he stopped everytime he wanted to do something else.

the beauty of live is not stopping the sequencer and just jam. at the top of live there is a option call OVR. OVR is used to overdub and i would set that is the letter "O" to activate OVR. also at the top of live there is another option for the meterone. i would set that to the letter "M". there is another option TAP set that is the letter "T".

- use T is tap in your tempo/start the sequencer
- use M is start the meterone
- practice what you need to input into live
- use O is start recording
- use O again to stop the recording but the sequencer is still going
- if you like the take go to the next track
- if not cntl z to delete that take
- go back to step 3


this is just one workflow but the key to live is jamming and not stopping every step of the way. also, i know live has midi out and can handle hardware but with my experience with live sotfware is better if you know the sound libraries.

live with a midi control (bcr2000, bcf2000, uc33, pro key pro 88, etc) and using the key command one would never have to touch the mouse, just jam.

how do you map those keystrokes? Do you have an option I dont have? There is no user key command feature in Live
.. or are you altering the source code?

Is there an option in live that lets you set all clip lengths before recording: say i want all clips to be 4 bars like you would do on an mpc??

Or would you just record an empty 4 bar loop and copy in all slots?

i do not know if you are being a wise a$$ or not but open live look at

help > read live manual

read up on key map mode switch page 338.

there is also map mode for midi.

yes there is and another thing you can have different length midi and audio clips.


you guys should really start reading the manual. there is allot of good information in there.

yes, midi controller and key stroke.

i like the key strokes better better because O for overdub, M is for meterone, T for TAP, E for edit, S for stop, P for play, R for record, 1 for track 1, 2 for trk 2, 3 for trk 3 and so on. i have a mpd24 and i have the pads mapped to stylus rmx, intakt and battery 3 and it get confusing sometime which pad is for what, that is why i like the key strokes. so i try to keep it simple mpd24 for stylus rmx, battery3 and intakt only.

yeah I heard you on the keystrokes layout. Seems like you have a dope layout, easy to remember too. Thats how I try to map things if thats what I'm doing also.

ah yeah yeah but there is no user definable keycommand list! you cant change those retarded shortcuts as ctrl+e or ctrl+j or ctrl+shift+t and others. You can only "map" keystrokes to features in the GUI. Which settings are saved with each session, at least the midi mappings are, so thats another bummer

why would you want to change the shortcuts key (ctrl+e)?

you should set up your key maps in your default als and only have to do it once.

No but one has to know what the hell they are talking about and in this case you do. :lol:

Live is the bomb, quick, efficient, and spontantous live remixer and djing program on the planet. Still wanting for my MPD24 :wink:
