good, just know that if you need to create new folders and don't want to freeze the mpc and lose what is in its ram, you should load the HD up on a PC/Mac and create the folder from there.

I can't say I know what's going on in his head....but I think cre8tive got your subtle hints the first time.

But still, there is a better alternative. If you just happen to be among the few that are having problems in this area, get yourself a Flash Card. You can save there first. There hasn't been any reports that I have heard of that saving to one of these cards freezes your MPC. After that, you can try saving the same file to your hard drive. If it freezes..no problem because you already saved it to the CF card.

OR...if you are really paranoid....create 100 empty folders on your hard drive. Keep saving your projects until you are blue in the face. When those are filled, create 100 more. Now you have just eliminated all your concerns about your MPC freezing when trying to create a folder....thus potentially losing material.

cre8tive wrote:I made the coldest song I ever composed. Saved the entire program in the wrong folder---deleted the seq, and song/program/then went back the root in the HD and made a new folder--then the bytch crashed---it locked up on me.!!!!!!!!!!! I did everything I could--had to turn it off--turned it back on and the new folder name was there but nothing in the folder. I swear if I didn't pay a nice sum of money for this boy it would've gotten smashed the fuk up!

What is the proper way to save new folders in the latest Akai OS?

Not that it helps you but you only make this mistake once.

Not sure, since you interfered with your mickeymousing, i had to make sure he gets a top advice over the amateurish one.

Actually, plugging the HD to a computer via USB is handy to backup to another HD, burn DVDs etc. You know, a pro workflow... I like that better. That's for in the studio, carrying and saving to a CFCard is the second best option. Third is pretending you will know how many folders you will need in advance of creating anything.

I said I wasn't going to do this but..........

If my amateurish advice will help prevent cre8tive from losing other projects...so be it. Call it what you want.

Reading the manual will tell you to use the USB for back up. Nothing new there. Using USB to create folders (because you think you MPC will freeze up on you) is taking things to the extreme and is unnecessary. Saving to the CF card as a means of easily saving a project is the BETTER solution. The MPC is a drum machine. There is nothing hard about guessing how many folders you need to create with a song with. The MPC 2500 can only hold 128 MB. Its not rocket science.

But of course you will make it out to be as such..thus, you are among the few that have/has issues. So, now that we continued this further than what it had to be.....cre8tive has the option of listening to:

1. A Professional who has come across the same problems
2. An Amateur..whose has never lost a project or had this problem...one who has a faster/more efficient work flow.

Its nice to have options.......

...and has never really done any musical projects outside the occasional weekend beat.

so the MPC is only a drum machine? i thought it was a sampler with supertight sequencing features.[/quote]

Sorry if this is redundant, but I've always found it useful to save to the hard disk and memory card at the same time. That way if the card or drive dies before I've backed up to my computer then I still have at least 1 safety. It takes a couple of extra clicks but if you value your work it's worth the extra effort.

Peace.

There you go again. You have no idea what I do or who actually uses my studio. Just know that I even have 12 year olds that don't have problems saving tracks once I showed them the best way. Again, take my advice or not. You are the one with issues..as you take every oppurtunity to share your issues...I honestly believe you work for Roland and use an MV. At least you came to a half-way decent community. If you go on the MV site talking bad about the MV..they will edit your post or suspend your membership  So play on playboy....

And regarding what you thought.....MPCs are just drum machines, adequate phrase samplers...with an integrated sequencer. There is nothing mind blowing about an MPCs sequencer. They do the job..better than anyother hardware alternative. Now if you are talking about software....an MPC can't match any of the leading software sequencers on the market. You should have done some researcg before spending $2000 on a drum machine for post production. But hey...you are the professional...what do I know ???

One more thing....stop talking sh!t. Actually help somebody without complaining about your problems/life stories..or post a beat that you have made with your MPC.

it seems you are the one desperately trying to show what you do (or lack of things to do).

i make music. end of story. i am doing stuff i am very excited about with that machine, i have no problem with it apart from the obvious bugs. really, i bought it because of the sequencer which has a better feel than DAWs imo. i love the workflow, after years of softwares, its refreshing...

now go play with kiddies, Jah, they are the only ones impressed with your weekend warrior skills.

Yeah...yeah...you are just talk. This isn't about me. Your turn another thread into being about me....I see your obsession and I am not flattered.

So you make music huh...well, any professional will gladly show off his/her work. You spend too much time in a forum dedicated to drum machines to be a professional. No one cares about what youy love. We talk about the best way to use MPCs while others post music they have created using MPCs. You don't do either. So go play with your clients or stay here and post something useful (without crying) for once.

This forum was refreshing until we had a wave of new members who have done nothing but complain..again...about the same ol thing.

POST some music!

no obsession, its only because you're the biggest of idiots, and i am fascinated by that. if you want a medal, there. the way you hold on to what you think is right, without questioning anything else..is very Bush-esque, or might i say, very american.

thing is, you are a novice and it shows, although you pretend otherwise. the way you hold on to cliches, its sad. i am only a pro because i make a living with music, but that doesn't say anything else does it? i am an engineer's nightmare because i always want to try stuff they think is not technically "right", i am always challenging whatever is thought of as the "right" way to do stuff...and still i am a pro like it or not. i do things differently.

what the hell does posting music have anything to do with the akai OS bugs? get a life.

Jah, you should admit to everyone here that for the last few years you have been teaching basic level audio technology in a kiddie school, and you show off your MPC skills in the course: how to make the hiphop beat 101! that's where you super knowledge and studio experience comes from!

Damn....see what you made me go to...I have to insult you now

Not only are you an idiot...you are a bigot as well. You even have me doing the same..although my comments are a bit more subtle. But honestly, I don't have anything against the French. I would love to visit Europe and take it to a French Chick....I heard they have a history of loving dark meat (or was that the Italians in Italy :P ):
I got this French chick that love to french kiss
She thinks she's Bo Derek, wear her hair in a twist
My, cherie amor, t£ est belle
Merci, you fine as **** but you givin me hell

Ok...now where were we. You entertain me son. You really do.

So..when it comes to this music production gear, I am far from a novice. This is what I do as a HOBBY son. I have been doing it for quite sometime. I can rig up studio with my eyes closed. Besides for my Mac, every computer in my home was assembled and built by me. I never pretend to be anything I am not. No, I do not use the gear I have to make money (well, not yet anyway). I do it for fun. I spent thousands of dollars on gear that I don't even use  Its just my hobby, and something I enjoy doing...like talkin sh@t to people like you...you are all talk. If you are producing music/movie scores/or what ever...you are sure not sharing it with this community. Are you afraid? What's the point on a PROFESSIONAL creating music, if no one will ever hear it. That sounds more like a hobbist to me (which is what I am for the 1000th time).

Wow...I really got you going. You are so attached to me, you have stretch marks around your lips :P Is that a cliche' ??? I can do this forever. I just got done with finals and I am ready for you. I have plenty of extra time during the holiday season.

So what do you want to do now? Since you joined this forum...you have yet to help anyone...do nothing but bad mouth the MPC 2500....used your first dozen or so posts to talk sh!t about me....can't be making money since you spend all this time in the forums....turned down a challenge for you to produce your professional work...turned down a challenge to enter a beat contest.....still can't use your MPC without problems....still cry like a b!tch....

So what is your point on even being here besides your obsession with me?

Another shamless plug for you to join the beat battle...what if I up the prize to $50? Will that entice you? I know you need a set of new razors to shave your boyfriend's for your holiday rompfest :P

Ha ha ha...ha ha...haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ha ha ha :D
