Okay. I just bought my MPC1000, I'm pretty literate when it comes to this stuff, but I have a couple questions. Hopefully one of you chaps can assist.

I get the concept of adding the hdd and am very interested. First, is there a model difference between the blue 1k and the black 1k that I have? Perhaps an OS change? Also, is it possible that the HDM10 is no longer needed for the later black model? Not sure about that.

Also, I see some of you talking about an external enclosure. Now, are you speaking of using them in conjunction with a laptop, or exclusively with the 1k? If exclusively, how?

I want to be able to leave my laptop home from time to time and have all my samples ready to be used at any given moment. In the two days I've had to work on it, I've tried to transfer samples from my laptop via the usb, using the complimentary 32MB CF. Of course with the limited RAM, I run out of room FAST. Please give a suggestion of my next step.

I tried to read all the threads but, good grief, its a lot. So if I rehash, please forgive me. Thanks.

Is it true that when you use a large hard drive your 1k will be slower and will it crash from time to time?

Heard that from my neighbour, but I think that doesn't makes any sense

Justgood - the black MPC1K also requires the hard drive mounting kit (same as the blue one). Since you are running out of room, the "next step" would be to (1) upgrade your ram to 128mb (buy a 256 mb ram card, the MP will read 1/2 of that so that you'll be maxed out at 128mb) and (2) install a hard drive. The first post by Sparq lists all of the compatible hard drives for the MPC 1K.

Mez - instead of posting a hard drive (that has been untested in the MP), take a look at Sparq's post. It contains many hard drives that have been successfully installed in the 1K. Avoid buying and testing drives that have not been approved by users on this site - that's a pain.

If you want a 100GB hard drive, get the Toshiba 100 GB drive listed on page one of this thread - I have that one and it works perfect (I had an issue with my MPC earlier, not the drive). It installs fine without an issue.

Hope this helps...

you need to format it with your mpc!

I already have - 131039MB are available .... I guess that the MPC is only capable of formatting to this size

I just recieved my HD for my MPC 1k... threw away all my CF-cards, good riddance!

Anyway, anyone have instructions on how to mount the HD into the MPC?

Couldn't find it via google
