who is still using step edit and why?

IM KINDA NEW TO THIS SITE, CAN ANYBODY ME SEND ME A LINK WHERE I CAN LEARN HOW TO USE GRID EDIT, OR TELL ME WHERE I CAN FIND A LINK AT?

there are a couple ways.

first, the no. 1 way is to get stan steez's manual at the top of this forum page
2, jj has a quick manual. it is hard to understand but thorough.
3 - most important. this is the way most of us learned it. just throw yourself at it until it makes sense. i've spent a LOT of time in grid edit, and while i think it has a couple things that would make it 100% better, i am a huge fan.

i think it gives me even more expressibility and control over my drums and other deep programming. i am able to keep much more on one track so i don't have to move back and forth, and i've gotten really fast with it.

it's a different but addictive workflow. great for me, probably great for others too

If you used reason redrum or live sequencer then grid edit can`t be no more basic than those.

im more of a grid edit user. primarily for the fact i only recently purchased my mpc, and never really got into step edit. i do use it for track mute etc as its essential. im feelin this JJ os so far. few bugs here n there overall good work. bargain for 30

i love grid edit.

i've been on grids since the old roland and boss drum machines, as well as rebirth and reason. it's a good way to work out complex rhythms and fills quickly. plus it allows for more experimentation all around.

overall, the combination of bangin' pads in real-time with the supplementation of grid edit makes the mpc that much more fun!

sounds crazy, please explain to me how you add swing to the qlink, I cant seem to figure it out.

in grid, hit SHIFT and then TC and then QLINk, then set qlink 1 or 2 to swing. i usually set 2 to swing and 1 to layer

Then Im done adding swing to qlink 2.
But what do I do afterwards? to use the qlink 2? how do I apply it to a track?
Can I choose If I want to apply it to one pad or all pads?
Please tell me, and again, thank you very much in advance.

it gets applied before you record. say you're on a swing note and record it w/ qlink all the way at the top - maximum swing. all the way at the bottom? minimum swing.

i use step edit as a way of isolating events, like certain notes, if i want to make quick adjustments cuz sometimes it's quicker than 6 pad grid edit.

i love the fact that you can isolate events, cuz my step edits often have rediculous amounts of information in them between notes (a pattern of all 16 pads of one pad bank, often) and often 3 or more sets of qlink information. that's a LOT of scrolling. howver, isolating the events makes it a breeze.

so i no longer would abolish step edit. i WOULD shrink the text though
