Has anyone had probs with their hard drive.
I've got a Hitachi Travelstar 80 gb. Every drum, sample, program....everything is on my hard drive. Ijust switched the MPC on and it's not recognising the drive.
Anyone had this prob and knows how to sort it??

I have that drive - had nothing like this happen to me.

Are you saying that it was working one minute and not the next? Or is this first time install?

Do you have a backup of disk on PC or something?

I've had it for about 6 months. the same happened a while ago where it wouldn't recognise the drive, but i just took it out and put it back in again then it recognised it, but this time i've done everything and its just not recognising that its there. i have most of the stuff backed up, but not the stuff i've done lately.
Thanx for the quick reply

Try this,

Power off MPC, power cable out.
Take out disk.
Reset MPC.
Put HD back in. Making sure of that clunking (kinda) sound which indicates proper contact between MPC and HD.
Then try accessing the HD.

If that doesnt work;
Do you get HardDisk as an option in the LOAD screen or can you not see it all?
Can you access the HD thru the PC from the USB mount?

Failing that..... hmmm. Maybe you could try and hang it off a spare IDE cable from you computer.... maybe ????

if all else fails and you really need that data there are disk recovery centers where you send you disk off and they get as much data off as possible.

Just tried to reset it without the hard drive in....no luck.
I'll try the IDE cable next.
When the MPC boots up, i can hear the hard drive spinning but just can't get it as an option to load or save and can't mount it from the USB.
I'll try the IDE - PC option.
If all else fails, i'll take it to a hard drive doctor.
Just rang the AKAI helpline, they were no help whatsoever.
Thanks for your help mate

Well just hooked up the hard drive to my comp, its working ok, so no data lost. Now i've got the prob of the MPC not recognising the hard drive.
If its not one thing its another
