Sampling

i have a hard time making samples fit, and if i get the sample to fit the timing is off when i try to tap a drum pattern because its a live sample and not synced by a metronome can any one help! thanx. oh and uh, once i get
this down paacked its on babyYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

ive run into that myself, i would reccomend chopping the sample. from what ive seen lots of guys totally chop the sample spread across the pad,trim and shape were needed then walk down the pads to create a pattern that fits the tempo.many who ive seen post do this no matter what because they say it fits the sequence better.the way ive done it even before i had the luxury of chop shop was to get a basic drum track going for timing then run the sample over it 1st i make adjustments to the pitch or speed if needed if it cant be made to fit because of the live type timing i listen and see a what point or points it strays and that were i chop it then lay it over the track in timing with the drum track

The most straightforward solution would be, if your sample is off, make your drum pattern off too. There's no reason why you should stick to 1/16th or 1/32th notes. Try shifting the drum notes back or forth a few ticks in Step or Seq Edit until they fit.

i've had this problem when sampling some jazz. I usually listen to the whole song and find the sample thats on time. You might have to chop and timestretch but theres no simple solution...just use your ears.

just like respect said it takes time and basically at the end of the day is what your ears tell you....i tend to chop real small and i lay it out across my mpc then i just play it out from what im feeling on the sample...takes time and patience....sometimes i quantize at 1/16 55% swing
