MPC 4000 & S950?

Thinkin about getting a s950, i never had a chance to use one. just wondering if anybody could tell me if it's worth buying if i already use a 4000. will that defeat the purpose of the 4000? and how would i use it with the 4000? thanks in advance-

If you want 'that' sound, then its worth it. They dirt cheap anyway, just try it and see if you like it. Its almost impossible to find one with SCSI tho, so its gon be 2DD floppies.

yeah but how would i use it with the 4000? sample into the S950 then sample that into the 4000? wouldn't that defeat the purpose? or just use the 4000 for midi, but is that worth it? please a little help cuz i'm about to get one. thanks

Use it anyway you want. the purpose is that lofi sound. if you run the 950 from midi you have the lofi sound. if you sample from the 950 to the 4000 you still have the lofi sound. that's why you want the 950 right? Just get it. Or even better, get an EMAX I. IMO it sounds better than the 950.

and they so cheap its a no-brainer.

People thinks that to get the typical old skool grimmy sound it needs only a 70$ sampler like the akai s950...

Not to squat on the 950 (i had one years back) but at today's prices i would shoot for the S1000. It's a stereo piece with easier to find scsi cards if not already installed.

sample into the S950 then sample that into the 4000

Why not just dirty your sounds on the PC? More flexibility and control over your sound. Then you could simply export into the 4K.

i have all of these pieces..and i tell you..the s950 made me my first 10,000 dollaz so i will never part with it...and i have over 3000 disk full of samples *lol*..but anywaays...i still sample with it and with my sp1200...cuz that gritty sound still sells cd's...and my s2000 and my mpc 4000 sample way too clean
but being that i also own an mpc 60II w/upgrades...mpc2000 and mpc2000xl
it really is just for preference...because they all have a different feel and sound...so when i go to a new level and buy the next mpc...i keep using the old because of the sound it makes my samples and songs sound
my personal experiment that i show some of these new age sample ratz, is
i will take a scratch and damaged copy of more bounce to the ounce and sample it into my mpc 60 II and play it back on a pad..and they are amazed at how the built in filters fatten up the sound on the sample and it sounds awesome...and i do the same on my 4000 and s950...and its just incredible
the 4000 makes it clean and clear...the 950 keeps it gritty but bumpin and it just a sound preference for whoever and whatever you are producing.

anyway no need to resample the s950 out into the 4k, just use em as different modules.
control the s950 with the pads and sequencer of the 4k,track em on the support as needed

umm the 4k resamples at multi sample speeds and bit rates. Using your own config you can mix and match the two to you liking. why do people feel the need to go grabbing at old shit whn they dont take time to learn the new shit they just bought???

I think you say filters when you mean a/d convertors. The 60II has no filters. Peace.
