if I get a MPC 4000 and Motif Es would I need anything for sounds synth the mortif ES has like 1,024 sounds in it.

you can do beats with just the motif i dont see the point for wasting all your money with the mpc. the motif has everything, i saw a dude make a killa beat in like 20 minutes today with the motif

But I also sample, and I would rather have pads to bang out my drums. I'm pretty sure that the motif drums are that great.

!!! cat : for that money you can get some real.
not gonna say one way or another cause i'm happy with the 4k and other, but look at the roland phatonm S series cause your money can go pretty far into a synth that samples on it's own. that motif is nice on the acoustic though.
if you're looking for opinions though : here's one.
get this http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/K2600R/ instead of the motif. controller is another $100.
same price and LOADS more to grow with IMO but listen and decide for yourself!

DON"T do that. If you get a 4k then you don't need that mpd ie.. Most Putrid Drumemulator.
If you have nothing and are a novice then the motif is full of sounds and no need to go farther just yet. motif and 4k, is ALL you will ever need for banging out beats. Mind you I said banging out beats and not burning or other stuff that 4k and motif is incapable of, which is still ALOT of stuff when used to the fullest together. I'm buzzin of some pure imported Sake, did I mispell anything?

The MOTIF is a great keyboard. I use mine every day. But on the real, sampling and making drum kits on it are a PITA. I use my 4k to sequence and sample. I use The motif as a controller and sound mod. IMHO this is much more powerful combination and more condusive to creativity. But if you are tapped for cash then you can still get serious results with just a MOTIF.

To add to that, you might even checkout the new fantom-x, it has comparable sounds with a few features the motif doesn't have like 16 pads and skip back sampling. Check out every option and do some research to see what would work best for you.

I have an MPC and a MOTIF ES...And depending on what type of track I am creating, I will use the MO sequencer and sometimes I will use the MPC seq. The Pattern mode on the ES is pretty sweet and great for house tracks and chainging and recording track mutes and stuff and then converting to song so you can do long solos...stuff like that is great on the ES.
But when I want to bang out a simple R&B, Hip Hop, or DnB track, I usually use the MPC sequencer and the ES a module...Sometimes I'll throw in some soft sytths as well because I always master in Cubase SX.
My workflow has gotten pretty complicatred but it works beautifully.

I would like to spend some time on th ES just to see where the creators went with it. I have been trying to get this reg motif back to it's owner.

What I meant was that rather than getting the MPC 4k just to bang out beats, then get the MPD 16 instead. I didn't know it had a bad rep. My bad.
