if it looked 900 times better than that disgusting mockup and had the following then i'd be all over it. To me this is how I see a modern unit that captures that orginal magic (much like a Moog Voyager has done):

synth section sounded like a modern pro one or prophet 5 (i'm not too keen on the evolver sound)

sampling with 12, 16 or 24 bit sampling NOT emulation the real deal (god knows if this is even possible, but if it isnt they should serve it up as 12-bit i reckon)

the synth section should be fully integrated with the sampling engine and give classic analog filtering and super snappy envelopes and wild lfo's

fx would have to be all about the vintage/tube/tape steez without this gimmicky korg valve nonsense - make it fatso-quality or dont bother

usb 2.0 or firewire connect allowing on-screen editing/chopping/sample management

linn9000 thick pads

solid state storage

bigger screen

more sliders

dont care what its called...although Boomchik is complete garbation

finally DONT aim this at guitarists like linns recent work - aim it at the beatheads, if done right i agree that EVERYONE will cop one...

The Tr-808 and 909 were never pennies on the dollar...not even today (unless you found a broken one that doesn't work). Some of the so-called real musicians were scared of drum machines and samplers period when they first surfaced. The TR808/909 sound was all over records in the 80s and sampled TR808/909 sounds are still being heard today.

It's real bro! Just a matter of time before it goes into production. Since i first read the news, I've been obsessed with this machine and I gotta have it. Even the MachineDrum never got me this excited. I'm gonna start saving money and cop this piece the minute it becomes available. I don't care how much it costs either. Oh god if that amchine comes with you described, especially if the sample engine is based on the prophet 2000 but 20 years later, the sequencer and drummachine takes from the mpc-60, with the analogue signal path from the prophet 5 like you said, I'd jump all over that. It probably cost a pretty penny since analogue signal paths are expensive to implement without compromise of some sort. but what the hell right?

And ya'll thought I was crazy for suggesting Dave Smith should bring back the studio 440.

wouldn't the 'synth' section be more about drum sounds, rather than being too similar to any pro 1/prophet etc...

ie i don't think its a 'synth section plus sampler' but rather 'analog drum synth plus sampler'

i agree.....drum synth plus sequencer and mpc-style sampler, then run the samples through the synth engine!!!! bombmatism!!

there was an interview with roger linn that's been posted in late 2005, in which he talks about making a new drum machine. now that dave smith and roger linn have collaborated again, it's on like donkey kong!
