Hi guys.

I think im trying to do the impossible, but i thought i'd run it past the experts before i gave up:

I use my MPC1000 (original os) to play along to samples/backing tracks with my band. I have the mix for the front of house going out of the assignable outputs 1 & 2. Stereo outputs/headphones is sent to me so i can hear a click for the sequenced backing tracks.

MY problem is that i have to trigger horn line samples without using the sequencer i.e. pad hits, i cannot monitor them in my headphones because they go out of outputs 1 & 2. Some of them are loops so i have to hear them for staying in time!

I am essentialy trying to get a sample to be triggered and then be played out of more than one output.

Any solutions? I have tried:

1) Assigning 2 pads the same midi note in an attempt to get one to play a sample that goes to front of house, and triggering the same sample on another pad assigned to my cans/stereo out. NO luck.

2) Using the effects to send a bypassed effect signal to the cans but that won't work because the effects only work on the stereo output :(

I have a SPD 20 as a midi controller but it can only send out one midi note per hit so that's out.

Any one wnat to take up the challenge?

Will the JJ OS solve this problem?

Thanks, Neil

Interesting puzzel.

If you have some kind of headphone amp this might work

click out 34 panned left
horns out 34 panned mid
headphone (amp) in output 3
line from output 4 to right record in

Set the next values in the mixer input tab:
Input thru: ON Source: ANALOG MODE: R
level: 100 pan: MID Out: 12

the disadvantage is that the headphone signal is mono.

sorry....i forgot to mention the output to front of house has to stay stereo for panning effect out front :(

Thanks for the idea tho. I will try it to see where it gets me. Where can i find the mixer input tab?

os 2.10 is the last official akai version. You can get it from their site.

Are you triggering the samples with a drum trigger? If so, could you use 2 triggers on the same drum? Then you could have a program that has the same sample assigned to 2 different midi notes/pads, and each one could be assigned to a different output.

it could.

say you put the sample you want to go out 1 and 2 on A01.
copy this pad to D01.
Simult A01 to D01.
in the mixer, route pad A01 to Individual out 1 and 2 (and on the jj os, you can route it to either 1 or 2, not just the pair!)
since D01 is routed to the main outs by default, when you strike A01 both pads are triggered. A01 is sent to 1 and 2, D01 is sent to your headphones.

Unfortunately any time difference between the signals (ie between my 2 hands hitting the 2 pads) could put me (the drummer) out with the samples. Its the human factor messing it up for the machines again!

This, if it works, will be exactly what i need! Thank you.

I go on tour in one week so probably a bit risky to change the OS over and have it fool proof for then, but one for the future methinks. I will have to rely on the sound men's monitors for now!

Cheers

I don't think the JJ OS simult will work because you would have to trigger the sample by hitting a pad on the MPC. Didn't you say you were not triggering the samples by hitting a pad on the MPC?

I was wondering how you were triggering the samples... I meant that if you could put 2 midi drum triggers on the same drum, both samples could be triggered by one drum hit, thus there would be no time difference. Make sense?

sorry, i get it now, using actual drum triggers! Yes that would work, but i have multiple samples that have to be done like this so i'd need 3/4 drums with 2 triggers on each. Something to think about tho.

Currently i use an spd20 as a midi controller. I did a gig last night and a few samples were hard to hear through my monitor so i think i may have to sacrifice the stereo outpu, and make one side of the stereo output for the headphones, the other for the front of house.

An well!
