save bug/installing new os

need some help

just installed 4.35 to eliminate a saving bug i was getting, however it
is still happening.

when i try to save it says file alreadys exists, rename...so i do and it still
wont save. it wont overight or save under a different name that doesnt
exist.

i backed up my files and isntalled the new os, then formated the card.

did i do this backwards. should i format my card then install.

i was under the impression that the new os fixed the saving bug if
installed correctly.

i was upgrading from 2.10

i tried installing the os and formating in different orders, but the bug
is still there. its probably a bad card reader.

are those available for replacement??? or on ebay???

will installing an internal hard drive solve this saving issue?????

ive read through the enitire hd recomendations section and done
numerous searches on the save problem i'm having, and im still
baffled.

i can only save single samples and seqs after getting the message
"file already exists" (which it doesnt) so i overright anyway. this somehow works.

i cannot save progams, all pro, all seg, entire memory or make new
folders. it wont let me overight or rename. ive tried two different cf cards.

the internal memory seems to work fine. i've read that the card readers
in this mpc are prone to failure.

has anyone experienced this issue? i'd like some reassurence before
i drop another bill on this machine.

Hey, I just responded to your post in the 1000 forum, but I see you already have tried the JJ OS now. It sounds like you did everything right... formatting your card on the MPC with the JJ OS already installed should have fixed the AKAI OS saving bug... What kind of CF card/cards are you using? Did you upgrade your RAM? If so, what are the specs of the RAM you installed?

kingston 1gb is a good card should be no probs here.

check inside the flash socket that theres no dirt or any bent pins...

if not sounds like it could be a reader issue

yeah, the card reader looks perfect.

i cant return this machine unfortunately.

if it is a bad card reader is an internal hard drive the solution
to work around it????

the card readers most useful for transfering quick files from you PC and MAC to the MPC - i wouldn't want to be with out one ... space on internal hard drives are great but be aware thecan can fail -

if the OS is behavin normally my guess is it's gotta be the reader.

if the machines not under warrenty - and your tech minded. have the top off and check all the cables are seated firmly
(Don't forget to unplug from the mains!! first!)
also ground yourself to discharge static before touching any of the internal components.
make sure any IC's are seated in there sockets. most of the cables have conectors on them. could be ones worked loose - or was never fully in from the factory.

how are you flashing the machine - if it's via the CF card could be catch 22 - if the CF reader is faulty you can't flash the machine correctly.

you could try ptting an HD in the MPC hookin it up via USB an try load the OS from there... you never know may fix the reader as well.

one thing - which i don't know - doe's anyone know ?
doe's this problem show up if you only have 16mb of ram?
anyone usin jj would have 128mb for sure - dumb not too as 128mb on ebay is about $60 or less...

just thinkin - how well do you know the MPC1000 ?

how are you getting the OS file onto the CF card?

just wondering if your doing everything right.

i'm no expert but i can follow a recipe.

i backed up my files put the bin on the card

updated, then formated with new os, then put my files back on.

i also tried foramating my card, then putting the upgrade and files on

so pretty much the same thing, the second time my card was blank
when i put the os on it

Do you have any folders and/or filenames with symbols in the filename (i.e. SNARE.HIT or BOOM!SNARE) . If so, I would rename them. Symbols in filenames seem to wreak havoc on the MPC. I haven't had trouble with spaces in the filenames, but if you wanna get real thorough, you could try eliminating those too.

That just made me think of something you could do to troubleshoot a little further. Backup your files to the computer (unless you still have the other backup, and you didn't make anything new since then) and format your card with the new OS again. This time, load up just one sample, make a program, and try to save entire memory to the card BEFORE you load everything back on. This will rule out wheather or not corrupt data is causing your problems.

Another thing to try would be to do a factory reset (POWER ON while holding ERASE, I think...). Then reinstall the new OS.

Can't think of anything else to try at the moment... I'll post up if I think of anything else.

i renamed and organized my samples to folders.

i dumped a handful back into the mpc. so far no saving or overwriting
errors.

definitely no "!" "#" etc. when saving on these things

wont know if the 16mb is a problem till i have that much on my
card again. i had about 14.3mb when i couldnt cave anymore.

props for the help fellas. my mpc has never run this smooth

Excellent - when you can get yourself the 128mb upgrade it's a must.
