I am starting a new thread, I believe this deserves it. This originated on the 4000 forum. I try to break my equiptment with every mix and every production project. So many peices of gear
Have any of you tryied to get in to your gear and create your own sounds. Forget the factory sounds that is for the music store sale, but your signature is what counts. You will find that your equiptment is capable of some things that will open up a whole new world. PCM combo's LFO's & OSC. Combining/experimenting with these along with incorporating samples and mixing, morphing, stretching and layering effects that you tweak, are going to make even them most goofy boards sound totally different. Most of these sound moduals with in the last few years are able to do what the brand new gear that comes out each month are doing. You just have to experiment. What do you think the sound designers are doing? You have access to the same basic principals and algorythms they do. It takes time I know..... A korg Triton is no better or worse than a Motif, Fantom, Proteus, Kurz or what ever... I believe any one who feels different hasn't done anything but rely on someone else's creativity. Do you think a world class Chef depends solely on store bought spices or recipeise? Ofcourse not he/she will creativly mix match and add/subtract what they feel will enhance the reciepe! Artist applies to more than pushing the buttons.
Apply your self. You are capable of so much more. For the newjack did you know the MPC can do more than just looping samples? Are you willing to see how deep it gets?
This isn't a rant, consider it an encouragement to get to know the love of your life and how to romance her.
