Can I change the polyphony of a sequencer track?

I've owned my 2000XL for about a month now and can't find anything in the manual about changing the polyphony of a sequencer track. When I record basslines or synth leads that I I've transposed over the pads in the MPC, my inaccuracies in playing mean that occasional notes will overlap. I have it set to NOTE OFF in the parameters if thats what your thinking. I was wondering if like most synths you can set only one note at a time to be heard (monophonic).

yes you can in the same screen that you accessed for note off.......set it to mono for each pad with sound on it...........also it needs to be set across the board when you chop, zone or slice a sample in to parts

Thanks for the help, but using the mono option means that you don't get that feel of the "note off" option as you release your finger. I just use a 5-6sec bass sound and set the parameters to note off so that you can control the release of the sound as your playing. Doesn't this mean you would have to just use the same duration length of the sample each time you played a note. Is there some easier way to do this then recording stuff in later with the note variation slider.

Goto Programs. In PARAMS where it says POLY change to MONO. Note Off plays it till you let go. Also you might want to press OPEN WINDOW in that field. You can select a track mute which can stop a pad from playing. ex. Tap the pad 2x with mono on and a 2 bar loop in the pad. Let it play for a bar then mute it with the pad that you set the mute on. Double tap it again and let it play out for 2 bars.

Hey thats cool. I didn't realise those options existed within the mono selection. But this doesn't prevent seperate notes in a program from playing over each other. Thats what I'm trying to find out. Is it because what I'm talking about is audio rather than midi data. I don't think this option exists.

Well, you can't do it in that sense, you can get the efftect by note cutoff, havimg the sample mono,

But to achieve your results, slow your sequence down and take your time to play the part in.

Good point emacaco, playing it in at a slower tempo would solve a few problems. Simple solution. However it is a shame that there is no option to switch a sequenceer track to mono. I like to just record random shit and chuck it on mono, often pretty weird and cool results.

Yo Bing - I've been struggling with the Mute Off feature since I got the MPC. It's never worked for me. I'm probably doing something wrong. I have a string noise on a pad, and nothing on 2 other pads. I went to programs->params, changed the mute of the string pad to be both of the pads with nothing on them. I set it to be Mono, then recorded the pad at the start of each bar. I then recorded the mute pads slightly after the string started playing, and nothing happened. I also tried doing this in reverse ... having the string pad listed as Mute for the pads with nothing on them, and nothing still. What am I screwing up?

You need to have sounds on all the pads.
ex.
pad1-stringnoise
pad2-stringnoise

Then you would lower the volume all the way on pad2 in the mixer screen

Pad2=mute on pad 1

Press pad1 and then mute with pad2

You need to have a sound on the pad that it the mute. If it doesnt have a sound it is off. and will not mute anything. But you just cant have an empty pad they all have to have something on em.

Ah it works finally! ... I thought it was a temporary mute .. not a complete note stop. I was hoping to acheive a slicer effect using it Thanks for the 411 tho

use step editor to fine tune the note durations and positions, you lazy ****..
