Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Jswagger Wed Feb 28, 2007 11:20 pm
Aiite my homeboy and i make beats but we have a problem...... I own and use the mpc 2000xl while my buddy swares by software....... Sometimes i come up with a drumline and sometime he does...... So my question is lets say my friend makes a drumline on FL 7 is there away i can midi to the mpc and change up the drum sounds if i need to, still having the same pattern and save it to the mpc.............

Basically can i take a drumline from FL7 and transfer it through midi to the mpc 2000xl and save it to the mp so i wouldnt need to use FL 7...

BTW i have a m-audio audiophile......

Midi is NOT audio.

You are speaking of transferring seq data (midi) , NOT audio sound.

Midi data CAN be transferred.

Read up on midi 0 and midi 1 types.

Read up on which types that FL and MPC can use, figure out which one fits your needs and roll with it.

You should just be able to export a MIDI file from FL (of the drum sequence) and load it into the MP. It'll have all the note data there (probably on one track) and then you can see which notes (in the program) its changing, and then change which sounds in your program these notes trigger.

A wack answer huh? If you knew what MID is and what it does, you wouldn't have had to ask the question in the first place dog.

foh with that.

Dawg with you its like "how do i get to las vegas from san fran" and your smart ass goes "well your ass better know how your car engine works" Its like apple and oranges......

I know midi does not send sounds..... Or else i wouldve ask how to get sounds from FL to my mpc............

All i asked was how to get the data from FL 7 to my mpc......... And only korce has been helpful enough to give a answer.........

YO DAWG If you think you have a ego like timbo, scott scorch or kayne and dont need to help out rookies but instead of giving tons of smart ass remarks, not only to me but to other members how come you dont have any plaques on your wall like the people i mention..... Untill you get a plaque or do something remotely worthwhile your just like us..... From the noobiest of the noobs all the way up to the "experts".... We all tryin to make somethin wit our music and i dont know if this never happen to you but everyone asks for help time to time....No i dont need your help but maybe somebody out there can help me out if you dont wanna help skip on to the next post and dont be a smart ass... You can do a mapquest search from the beginning to destination address and get there without a problem.

Sounds are audio, how you get your sounds from FL to mpc would be to sample audio, resample or transfer the actual audio wav file(s) found in:

C:\Program Files\Image-Line\FL Studio 6\Data\Patches\Packs\RealDrumkits

etc.

I don't have an ego, you couldn't be more far from wrong.
Plaques on the wall, I don't care about that. I'm not out for that.
I never said I was an expert, never fronted like I was either.

korce's answer is actually what you yourself would have run into if you had have taken my advice but you are bent on my destruction so of course you'll hate me. I just don't wanna give out silver spoons. I won't argue with you cause no matter what I'm still a smart azz right?

yeah, you can just save the midi seq on the pc to a zip or floppy. Since you got the xl, i would look into a card reader.

Or, you could just used a midi cable form his pc to your mpc. I find this way easier for me imo.

yea i have a card reader.......

i did the export midi to my cf card already and it loaded on the mpc but when i pick a drum sound and assign it to pad 1 it doent work......

then i tried loading a program and it still didnt work.......

aiight man check, truce, aiight.

u imported the midi file, cool.

Which one, midi0 of midi 1, u need to know that they are different.
http://www.tweakheadz.com/how_to_get_started_with_midi.html
also
http://www.midi-classics.com/whatmidi.htm

"MIDI Type 0:
Type 0 files have all data on ONE time ordered track.
(1 of 3 defined file types) This is the most widely supported and streams fastest.
MIDI Type 1:
Type 1 have multiple tracks.
MIDI Type 2:
Type 2 are pattern files. (rarely seen)"

are u trying to play the file on ur mpc not being connected mid to fl?

answer all that and we can move on with trouble shooting your situation.

by transferring the mid file into your mpc, all you did was transfer the actual note data and not audio ya dig.

method 1 (manual imo):
fl mid to file to mpc, cool.

in order to have that audio on your pads you need find the notes those sounds were assigned to in fl, get those wav samples outta the fl directory I pointed to you earlier and place them into an mpc programs and assign them to the same notes in your mpc.

method 2: midi
fl mid to file to mpc, cool.

have your mpc midi'd to fl, you should be able to get the fl notes on your pads. the actual sound is not on your pads, it still resides in fl, your are just triggering those fl sounds via the pads. the actual midi setup in fl u have to figure out. I gave you universal stuff here, it can apply to almost any soft sequencer and mpc when they are mid'd together.

holla back when/if you get stuck again.

Aiite dawg, i see you a real dude about it......

I could really care less about bringing the drum sounds from FL to the mpc..... Unless my homeboy really comes up wit a drum sample that makes me say whoa(which in anycase i can take from his computer put it in my cf card and load it)............. All i want is the pattern he banged out on his trigger finger (no homo).........And/or some other stuff he might put down on FL.......

Whatever is the faster/easier way is the best. I have a m-audio audiophile, which incase you dont know is a usb audio interface. So hooking up the midis from the MP to his computer is nothin......

But i think you was on to somethin dawg when you said i gotta find what notes was assigned on FL........Cause when i loaded the mid. file from the card on the mpc it had the tempo and stuff down........

lol, I been real, lmao. I just don't like to think for people 90% of the time.

your boy used the trigger finger as a controller.

go through your mpc with him and setup the mpc to control fl the same way he did the trigger finger. Do that.

what about mpc midi type tracks, in your seq you need to setup a midi type track in order to record midi.

mpc midi out to fl for timing/transport control.

fl midi out to mpc for recording of midi notes into the mpc midi type track.

i do this same thing when using my triton and mpc together.

i sometimes bang out drums from my triton extreme via my 2kxlse2 pads.
when i wanna do basslines w/ triton internal sounds, i assign the triton programs to a midi channel, setup a midi type track on mpc for that bassline program and match the device # on mpc to the triton bassline midi channel.

you know about mpc midi tracks don't you?
