Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

By shermstar Sun Mar 18, 2007 1:19 pm
I've been searching for these IDE/ATAP card readers but they're hard to come by, however, i've also seen usb to ide converter cords. Could I just use a usb drive with one of these cords and still have a working card reader?

yes that is what i did. mpc 2kxl came with a zip drive installed, all i had to do was swap the card reader with the zip.

I don't know the answer to your direct question, but the card readers are readily available and very affordable.

Over on midicase.com, specificaly on this page, there are a few places listed that sell these drives if you scroll down to the 'Compatible' section. The first one listed is easiest because they have online checkout on their site. I've also seen links to other places here on the forums that sell the same drives. They're all around $50.

I've been enjoying mine today. This really is the best thing you can buy for your XL.

thanks man, i appreciate that!!

i've asked before, but no one really gave me a straight forward example of them actually doing it, a lot of peopel had to mod theirs to make it work cause they didnt have internal zips.. but yeah man, thanks this is definately good news...

I might be slow, but what kinda cards can U use in these readers? I can see that they read most cards, but do all the cards that the reader handles work with the MPC?

If you do a search here, it seems SD is fickle. CF cards seems to be the tried and true. I'm still playing with the SD for the day I've been up and running, but no problems with the CF card.

No real mention of other types of cards from what I've read.

Don't think you understood my bad english. I meant what kind of cards can you use in this flashcard-readers. Are all flashcards compatible with the MPC?

Thinking of buying an XL which allready have a zip-drive, but I have no zip-drive for my computer, so need to change to CF if i buy that MPC.

If you BUY a mcd for your mpc then you should already KNOW what you are buying. Can't you look at the specs of the mcd that you are buying to see what it does and what it accepts?

Read specs people, read specs and find out what accepts what.

Yeah.

Aight... Dont even know what fickle means but sounds kinda gay hehe... And I guess my english just isn't good enough.. Coz I understand the specs of the acctual MCD, but Im trying to figure out if the MPC works with all the cards that the cardreader can read.....

Nevermind, going to buy a 1000 or a 2500, just have to take a serious look at my economy first and figure out if I can handle the $2500 right now....

Thanx anyways:)

By 'fickle' I mean it's hit or miss. A lot of people have problems with the SD cards. Again, I haven't seen mention of anyone using anything besides CF or SD cards, but that's all you need.

I've been using my SD card along side my CF card (both 1GB) for the past couple of days and don't really have any big issues. Browsing folders with the 'Open Window' key causes issues, but I have no problem browsing all my directories and files with the F-Keys and Data Wheel while having the 'File:' field highlighted, which I prefer any ways. And I'm moving stuff around using OSX, so I thought I was going to have all sorts of problems from the posts I've read on here. I just formated both cards in the MPC and it's been smooth sailing so far. No issues saving either.

If you definitely want an easier time interfacing between your PC and MPC, it seems like a 1000 is the way to go. I read up on both before deciding to get an XL and was willing to deal with possible problems I might have using one. But I've been happy with everything so far.

That installing guide is mine.

Here are some links for the correct reader. You will find more by searching for IISDMC

In my attempt to copy samples onto my CF card from my mac/PC(to use w/ the reader for MPC2000xl-newly installed....but not installed as of this post.) I'm noticing i can only copy about 500mb...I'm using a 2gig CF card. Anyone had this problem with cf cards - 1gig or 2 gig.

Yeah, I had this with OS 1.14...I upgraded to OS 1.20 and now I can use my card to the fullest (got a 1GB card)...

What OS are you on?
