os q's

i sound like an idiot but how does one tell what os is loaded into their machine. ive used mine just fine- but am just wondering if somone can explain this to me. whats better whats worse?

hit [mode] [other/pad10] and the global tab will have your version= and the version release date i think.

im using 2.1 its nice and free. maybe i should switch to jj but i dont like having to upgrade too frequently and i know i shouldnt complain about frequent updates, but to me its a pain.

if youre still using os 1. definetly upgrade to something else. anything is better than it

os2.1 is cool all that jj os offers are the samething that os2.1 has but difference is that jj has alot of automated features witch cuts alot of time consuming work into secs. there both pretty much the samething just ones more faster in the workflow than the other

lets not forget grid edit...

the thorough implementation of this feature has forced
me to rethink my drum programming altogether.

if you ask me jj os is worth it just for the grid edit.

(and of course getting rid of that annoying save bug.
i only lost stuff once, but it was a lot of stuff and that
was one too many times imo.)

yeah that's not all accurate - not everything is just time related. in fact, only a few things are. however, stuff like qlink to track and direct record really aren't time savers, just plain new features.

ya i got no room to talk about jj os really. last time i used it was like 7 versions back.. the q link and direct record are cool features. the grid edit is indeed bad ass. autochromatic assignments and so on u just need to check it out. but ima stick to my os2.1. soon ill purchase the jj os but my question is did they fix the pp on it? last time i used it u couldnt change the tempo of the sample.

p.s for 2.1 users to avoid crashes with saves use autoload and dont use move events in step edit.. if u wanna make a new track save ur work into a new folder but always use autoload when u plan to work on a project for a while. if u plan on saving more than once use autoload.

Dunno about this... If I really wanted to use Akai 2.1 the safest way I could think of doing it would be to install JJ 3.06, reformat the drives with it and then downgrade the OS back to Akai 2.1. That way I would no longer have to walk on eggshells every time I saved work to a drive formatted with a defective routine that is well known to cause critical errors and corruption.

BTW a correction for the thread -- no version of the JJ os has the "Direct Record" feature. That function is only available on Akai code poisoned MPC 2500s. JJ os has "Audio Tracks".
