my favourite samples is snares.

samples that make my heart pound faster than rabbits

classical music breaks where there's only one or two type of instruments playing.

those are nice. makes wading through hours of super-flowery romantic classical music worth it. i call that type of stuff "powdered wig jams"

I like them minor loops with a three chord chord progression and a funky ass baseline. I also love a minor guitar lick that i can **** with and put a meaty ass bass on.

first off mad props to all those who can bring loops out of obscurity and into the 21st century with style. i say this because i dont want this post to be read as a diss towards sampling loops or any one who incorporates that heavily into their style. up until recently i never sampled anything cuz i guess you could say i wanted to be an auteur, ya know like everything in the piece was my sole creation, built from the ground up. i eventually realized that to be entirely anti sampling is goin a bit against the grain and makin shit difficult for myself for no reason. i now try to incorporate sampling into my style a little bit the way antonym described and everybody quoted. the one thing i cannot do, however, is sample a full loop w/o chopping it to hell and back. i love to hear the next cat's beat wth a nice jazzy saxaphone sample looped up with some bangin drums, but if i built a beat around the same sample and people were like 'man i love that beat, the horns are so dope!' i'd feel wack cuz they'd be feelin the part of the beat that i didnt come up with myself. again props to all sample based producers but i was wondering does anyone else shy away from lifting loops for similar reasons?

i like 32 bar straight up loops... cant get any funkier than that!

yeah bro, i feel the same way, makes you feel like a bit of a fraud but i just try to make it obscure enough that they don't realise where they know it from.
But I also like that kinda reaction cause peoples ears prick up and they think they know but can't quite place it. If people pick it straight away, you know you aint doing it right

simple plain ol' dry 808 drum kit

I like any minor chord groove with a ill progression. If they play the chords long enough I will chop them up, if they are shorter I will usually loop and build around with other sounds in the record.

loops for sure, that arnt too busy so you can do what you want. i like to chop aswell, as long as i do it right.

I have a fetish for odd sounding japanese folk instruments (esp. those organs) that you can layer and pitch make some wierd sounding ish. I'm also down with single crashes and rides, not that I've found a whole lot
