MPC1k Midi Questions..?

Ok, so i copped a roland xv-5050 this weekend, (my first sound module)
and i got it all connected to my midi keyboard and my MPC....like this.....

KEYBOARD CONTROLLER: MIDI OUT to MIDI IN 1 (mpc)

ROLAND XV-5050:MIDI out to MIDI IN 2(mpc) and Midi IN to MIDI OUT (mpc)

Ok,...so I made some drum tracks on my MPC and I'm using the MPC as the sequencer.
On a seperate track I wanted to use the sounds from the sound module and play the melodies over my drum tracks...I did this...

MIDI (1A), PROGRAM OFF, CHANNEL (midi)

I sequenced the melody, and it sounds great! So next i wanted to add something else from my sound module, like some Strings or something,..so I went to a different track,..(same settings) and I changed the sounds to STRINGS on the sound module,..BUT the MPC started playing the same melody i recorded before, but with STRINGS INSTEAD!

Is it something i hooked up incorrectly or what?

My goal is to use the MPC as the sequencer, create my drum tracks on my MPC and use the ROLAND sounds to add some melody. But on different tracks, I want to be able to add more sounds like, PIANO, STrings, Bells, and different Synths,..all coming from my sound module. Could someone help me with this problem? You guys have been great in the past, and I 'm turning to you again,..hehe. But please help me,..thank YOU!

The XV-5050 is multi-timbral, right? It can be as simple as:
- keep separate sounds on separate MPC1000 MIDI tracks (strings on track 3, piano on track 4, etc.) - as you are.
- Give each MIDI track a unique channel number - track 3 -> channel 3A, track 4 -> channel 4.
- At the start of each MIDI track, use Step Edit to insert the Program Change you want to take effect (1 for piano, 48 for strings, etc.) - save yourself the trouble of changing patches manually.every time.

I don't know the XV-5050 specifically, but multitimbrality means you must keep separate sounds on separate MIDI channels (except drum sounds). This also applies when playing the sounds live from the keyboard, of course...

Is their an internal setting on your Roland regarding Multi, Omni, etc...your Roland should be set-up to receive Multi i.e. more than 1 Midi Channel

did u change yur 1k to midi 2a! midi 1a has yur first melody u played so u have to change yur midi channel on yur 1k from 1a to 2a! Try that and let us kno if that help u KNOCKAHOLIX!

yeah i tried it, but it still won't work.....this is very confusing, i'm practically pulling out my hair because of this midi crap, i read the manuals, but it doesnt help. All i could use is just one sound from the sound module and that's it. I'm thinking if it's a setting on the sound module i need to mess with...aarggah...help!

Page 2 has this, which sounds like it could help:

Setting Up for Sequencing
Use performances to set up the XV-5050 for use with a sequencer:
1. Press PERFORM so it’s lit.
2. Turn the VALUE dial to select PA:001 Seq:Template.
Note: Preset-A 001-016 are all good templates to start with when sequencing. Parts 1-16 are turned on and are assigned to MIDI Channels 1-16, respectively.

So it could be that the XV-5050 multitimbrality has to be switched on..!
